In 2011 I submitted The Journey through Nanking to several places. The first to respond was the one to accept: Independent Ink Magazine.
Here is their acceptance email:
The story was published in issue 3, September 2011. I was excited to finally make a sale. After all, unlike websites I'd written for in the past, Independent Ink Magazine pays their writers. But don't take my word for it:
So I waited, and come March 2012, I had not received any payment. It's important to note the above quote is not exactly what I read back in 2011; the "and honestly we are slow" part seems to be a recent addition.
I have sent the editor several emails. He has not responded. I wanted to solve this through email, and to be honest, I made excuses for them -- miscommunication? Misunderstanding? -- but after he didn't respond to the latest email, I decided to create this thread.
Do any of you have experience with Independent Ink Magazine? Any suggestions as to what I can do? The only email I have is their official submissions email. My hunt for the editor's own email has led nowhere.

Dear William Lee,
Thank you for sending us "The Journey Through Nanking". We love it and would like to publish it in a near future issue of Independent Ink Magazine. We will be in touch shortly with a more formal letter and details.
Congratulations, and Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Andrew Holt

SourceINDINKMAG pays ranging from $0.01 to $0.05 USD per word based on circulation distribution (indinkmag’s income). You can help out by promoting your Story. We make every effort to pay writers as much and soon (after publication cycle w/ rationale being that is when we get paid) as fiscally possible (and honestly we are slow). We are only as good as our Contributors and are graciously indebted.
