I remembered eBay was a resource and found me a book of children's stories I grew up with that I remember thinking was rather good.

I now know it's the third edition of The Faber Storybook edited by Kathleen Lines. It is giving me all sorts of déjà vu.

And the stories are, in fact, pretty good.
Anyone else looking for childhood stuff (or obscure) books might also try Etsy. It's not all homemade, there are a lot of 'vintage' sellers there as well, across the spectrum of things you might want.
(;) Like the old Marx Western Wagon that went with the Jane West doll I no longer have. In decent shape, the cover needs ironing.)

I swung by Barnes & Noble today and (of course) left with a new title. My pick:

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President - Candice Millard

I own Millard’s The River of Doubt, and I’m hoping for a similarly memorable story from this latest one. On a related note, my collection of presidential biographies is getting respectable imho.

Found Longbourn by Jo Baker at a second hand shop. A very Downtown Abbey sort of take on Pride and Prejudice written from the servants pov. Very well done and followed the Austen original very nicely without resorting to stealing the plot. Got a lot more about Mr. Bennet which I found interesting.

Also can't wait to dig into Anne Leckie's Ancillary Justice which I bought for my bookclub, but alas, I'm the only one interested in sci-fi.

Bought a nice Everyman Library hardcover of Ellroy's L.A. Quartet, mainly to replace a falling apart paperback of L.A. Confidential. Haven't read the other three books in here ( although I have seen the Black Dahlia movie ) so I'm going in. It's a bit of a doorstopper so might be gone some time.

Also replacing an old paperback, got delivery this morning of the new Weird House Press hardcover of William Hope Hodgson's The House on the Borderland. It's a lovely production of the classic with some particularly fine illustrations included.

While at a used bookstore yesterday, Conn Iggulden’s Genghis: Birth of an Empire caught my eye. I saw it had good reviews online, so I decided to give it a shot.

I also ordered the first three Xanth novels by Piers Anthony. I enjoyed them many, many years ago, and I got a hankerin' to revisit the series after seeing @Chris P post about it in another thread. :)

I too am going to buckle down and read this week after going to a charity fundraiser booksale. I didn't come home with nearly as much as I usually do; for some reason not much reached out and grabbed me. But I got a couple of biographies, including one of Nancy Wake ("The White Mouse"); a collection of stories by Margaret Atwood; a copy of The Night Circus, which I've been wanting to re-read; an older but looks-good urban fantasy anthology; and, of course, several cookbooks, plus three reference texts on the history of various foods.

So funny @Unimportant, I just picked up a first edition of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern that my library decided to discard! It is one of my very favorite books and I'm over the moon because it's in perfect condition. Now I just have to track her down to sign it.

After viewing a Youtuber’s list of their favorite crime novels, I got the the urge to pick out ten titles from that same genre to read during 2026 — my TBR for the remainder of this year is full. One of the books that made the list I already own, but haven’t gotten to. The others I would have to track down.

I found two of them this past weekend (used) and ordered another.

Hard Rain Falling - Don Carpenter

The Big Sleep - Raymond Chandler

Defending Jacob - William Landay

BookBub has figured out what makes me click (the buy button). In the past few weeks, I've purchased:

The Keep by Jennifer Egan

Run by Ann Patchett

Avenue of Mysteries by John Irving

The Poison wood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

Got the Folio Society hardback of THE LOST WORLD to go with the JURASSIC PARK I got for Christmas. Lovely color illustrated edition in the society's usual high standards ( they've reopened their Canada online store. Probably bad news for my bank balance.)
