Well worth it, with a great concept and tight storytelling. The anime adaptation was very good as well.

Highly violent, however, with some tragedy laced in. It's not torture porn or anything (not even the goriest of the works mentioned on this thread), but I'd still prefer to give people a heads up.
Understandable. Unknowing people and beginners in anime/manga tend to underestimate the media by only knowing things like magical girls, school romance stories, big eyes and colorful hair. And then you show them Blood C ... ( °3°)~♪

There was a time when I was actively following manga and anime and kept in touch with all the new titles coming out, but these days I've kind of fallen off the wagon. Nevertheless I still adore manga and continue to read them on a somewhat regular basis. If I had to single out an all-time favorite series, I think Fullmetal Alchemist would take the cake, but I also love Claymore, Promised Neverland, Attack on Titan, Berserk, Space Brothers, My Son is Probably Gay and Blue Exorcist. Naruto was the first series I really followed and loved, but I don't hold that much affection for it nowadays. Genre-wise it's mostly shonen with a bit of seinen sprinkled in, but generally if I'm interested in the story I'll read it even if I'm not the target demographic.

Bleach holds a special place in my heart; for all its flaws, I just love the coolness, the powers, and the hot men and women.

Chainsaw Man (part 1 only, waiting for all of part 2 to be released) is a special kind of good. The characters, Makima, the comedy which counter-balances the darker moments or just revels in a mashup of both tones, Makima, Aki's understandable dropping of his goal since he turns out to be normal and got attached to Denji and Power, the fact Kobeni's car ranked higher than Kobeni in the popularity poll, and last but not least, Makima.

I haven't read Berserk, but it's because 1) I inherently dislike medieval, and 2) I heard the series is pretty dark. Fans were hyping up the grittiness and bleakness of the series, which turned me off since I'm very sensitive to the amount of dark/bleak in series I consume. Angst Aversion in full effect for me.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventures part 1 to 5, Inside Mari, Gundam MSV-R: The Return of Johnny Ridden and Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory: Rebellion, the Elden Ring gag manga, and several more I can't list off the top of my head.

I never thought about approaching Manga from a Creative Standpoint as opposed to just looking at it as a fan, but it’s always had a special place in my heart. I still remember waiting as a child for my Monthly Shonen Jump.

I love Manga, all types. From Yu Yu Hakusho to Tokyo Ghoul, from My Hero Academia to classics like Naruto and Bleach.

I’m torn between whether I like watching Anime or reading Manga more, I actually think I like manga better but that’s probably just because a lot of the Anime based off of earlier Mangas are just not good.

You want classic anime? I remember watching Star Blazers back in the early 80s. For some reason the station in Iowa had it so I'd see a few episodes at my grandparent's when I was visiting in the summer. I was in my 30's before I saw the entire three seasons in order. I don't think I ever got around to watching the entire run of Tenchi Muyou. Saw episodes here and there back in my 20's.

The mangas are classics to me, very good, just like One Piece.
I was in high school when One Piece came out...please don't call it classic I'm turning to dust

When I hear classic, I think media that's been around a while. I'm not saying that Bleach and Naruto aren't good, just that I don't think either has been around long enough to be considered classic.

Exactly this. ☝️

One Piece is my favorite piece of serial fiction of any medium. Healthy respect for the others you mentioned. Just... why you gotta age me like that? 😭

One piece is over 1,000 chapters. Assuming they do 1 chapter/week and take no breaks ever, that's still over 19 years of publication. One Piece is fucking OLD.

In comparison, JJBA P1 came out in 1987, and they just started P9 this week. But also each part has new characters, so it's not the same guys working towards the same vague quest for over 2 decades lol

I don't read a lot of manga because I'm a big visual person, but...

If you're looking for a story that will break even the most emotionless person, then read Metamorphosis. It's about a sweet, sheltered girl who's introduced to a new life. That's all I can really say.

Good luck if you decide to read it. :cry:

This answer will be short and sweet because I've read too many, but my favorites are Vagabond, Vinland Saga (especially the second part IYKYK), Berserk, JJK, and Hunter X Hunter. Vagabond and Berserk helped me mature, and the lessons within them are great. Berserk could definitely be off-putting if DARK fantasy isn't your thing, so be warned.

My favorite manga is The New Gate, which is in the "Isekai with an overpowered MC" genre. The first few pages of the first book begins with the MC defeating the death game he and others have been trapped in. However, when everyone else is able to log off, he is thrown a few hundred years into the settings future and it have "become more real."

A lot of my enjoyment for me is from how the MC is trying to keep a low profile, while figuring things out, but he is quite clueless about the difference between himself and normal people.

What are you favorite manga and genres?

My favorite genres are pretty all over the place. I've read so much over the years that I mainly look for something out of the ordinary or with a really good story. I gravitate the most towards romance, fantasy, and mystery though.

My favorite manga would be difficult to choose too since I like so much. My current favorite though would be 'The One Within the Villainess', 'Iken Senki Volundio', 'The Daughter of the Albert House Wishes for Ruin'.

I know this wasn't asked but I wanted to add:

Manhwa would be 'The S rank that I Raised', 'Star Instructor Master Baek' and 'Debut or Die'.

Light Novels would be 'The Trashy PD has to Survive as an Idol', 'EX Rank Supporting Role's Replay in a Prestigious School', and 'ReZero: Restarting Life from Zero in Another World'.

I just did a major reorganization in my office, including cleaning out and repacking the manga shelves, and most of what I have in there is in the seinin/josei/shojo categories.

* Berserk
* Blade of the Immortal
* Black Lagoon
* Crying Freeman
(my copies went missing...)
* Masamune Shirow's works generally (even Orion, which to this day makes no sense to me but which is so dazzling I've stopped caring)
* Taiyo Matsumoto (in particular No. 5)
* Osamu Tezuka (an entire double-layer shelf and then some)
* Rose of Versailles
* Utena

* Suehiro Maruo
* Usamaru Furuya
* Otomo's AKIRA and DOMU
* Yoshihiro Tatsumi
* Satoshi Kon's work, before he got into animation
* Seiichi Hayashi & counterculture mangaka of the 60s generally
* Many single-volume works (e.g., In This Corner Of The World, Sexy Voice & Robo, etc)

I read all of Jujutsu Kaisen. While I think the series peaked in Shibuya, the Culling Games and beyond are really a slow decline.

And I've read Yankee Akuyaku Reijou: Tensei Tenka Yuiga Dokuson. A yankee (school delinquent) gets reincarnated as a supposedly evil villainess. She naturally derails the events and does what she wants. Not a bad read, because it's a delinquent who isn't bad but is unafraid to punish jerk behavior with a beatdown, even in the body of an aristo-villainess.

I am a SUCKER for villainess stories. One Within is definitely one of my favorites, since it has the whole twist on the genre's usual tropes. I also love "The Old Man Reincarnated as a Villainess" where a dad ends up the villainess of his daughter's favorite game, and he accidentally becomes a best friend while trying to be a "proper villainess" because he can't suppress his Dad Energy and his attempts at haughty mockery comes out as warm advice. Of course My Next Life as a Villainess is a classic. I recently stumbled on "Please Don't Come to the Villainess' Stationery Store!" which is also a nice one.

Have you read 'Daughter of the Albert House...'? That's another "villainess" lol.

I recently discovered 'With One Day Left I'll Break All the Destruction Flags' which I thought was probably closer to how nobility would react to a commoner trying to be queen. The villainess is very crafty and not going down without a fight.

There's also 'An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess' which I thought was similar to Bakarina. 'Villainess Level 99 ~I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord~' which has a more dense MC but definitely interesting in how "efficient" she is xD

I will definitely check out the ones you mentioned. It sounds interesting. :)
