Whoa. I think that deserves its own thread.

Update on writethestoryforme.com: they are paying contributors. The rationale is kinda weird, though.

So you pay (via ebay) to write 50 words in the book, then they pay you for writing 50 words in the book? Huh? :Headbang:

No, that's not true. He said there's a customer born every minute, and he went it with the utmost respect for the public. This was in the days when he ran the American Museum and featured incredible "oddities of nature". It was one of the newspapers at the time who quoted one of Barnum's detractors who was both jealous of Barnum's success and disdainful of the public.

BARNUM WAS A SHOWMAN, not a jerk.

Hense the (supposedly.)

Well, the "voucher" listings are gone from eBay, neither story is past page three, and what there is was contributed by the editors. So much for that.

Well your bank account info is hardly secret. It's on every check you send out. E-retailers used to routinely run echecks for cusomters. Some probably still do.

Which doesn't mean I'd give these people the time of day, much less a check.

Someone posted on Debra Doyle's sff.net group a plea for funding for his sci-fi book.
