I'm been working with an agent, Jackie Meyer at Whimsy Literary Agency, and wondered if you guys are familiar with her? I've done extensive research on this site and others-not much there.

In Publishers Marketplace it lists her with Warner Books for 18 years. It's a new agency--since 2006--has a few sales.

One of her partners, Olga Vezeris was Exec Editor at Harper for years.

That's about all I've been able to find out.

They've read half of my novel-so far so good according to her last email.

Thanks. I truly appreciate the help.

Yep. I saw that too. Haven't been able to find out anything else though.

Thanks.

Still nothing?

So I guess the fact that nobody has heard of Jackie Meyer or Whimsy Literary Agency is not a good thing. Bad. Very bad.

Not necessarily. You mentioned it's a new agency, has already seen sales (to places like Wiley and McGraw-Hill) in the 1+ year they've been in business, and both agents have prior (and very good) experience in publishing. I'm not seeing the problem.

You could email Writer Beware if you're worried, though, assuming Victoria doesn't see this and comment here.

Looks good to me. I'm not at the P&E computer right now, but I doubt that I have any complaints on file concerning them.

Thanks. I've read only good things about her. Plus, I had a good gut feeling about her agency. I was just surprised nobody on this site was familiar with her. She is new, so that's probably why. Thanks for the responses.

Excuse me? Eighteen years at Warner doesn't qualify as "nobody has heard of this person." Neither does being partners with a former Executive Editor at Harper. Neither does making sales to Wiley and McGraw-Hill their first year in business. These guys sound real.

She has my full and has indicated she has read it twice. She's on the fence.

QT lists the agency as accepting only nonfiction as of January 2010. (Yay for my genre!) But the Publisher's Marketplace says Whimsy also offers editing and ghostwriting services. I've heard some unflattering things about agents who also have editing services in-house. Is this something I should avoid? Or should I go ahead and query?

A stroll through the Wayback Machine finds the "We offer editorial and ghostwriting services." dropped off the PM page in '11. In '12, Ms. Vereris' title changed from "Literary Agent & Subsidiary Rights, Editorial Services" to simply "Literary Agent & Subsidiary Rights", then merely "editorial consultant". She is now no longer listed at all. (Her last (only) sales report on PM is with Vigliano).
