Thank goodness for this thread. It’s going to save hours of recreating playlists I just lost thanks to Apple
Everything is good in moderation! If you really enjoy writing, then you should keep at it, but don't let it be your only hobby/activity. Make some time to do another thing you enjoy or something beneficial for you as a person. <3 Sometimes it's tough to find that extra curricular, so good luck in finding it!today a mix of everything im inspired the most by music i think i need to cut back on it and wrting some times it makes me hyper or m so my family says they mean well but just dont understand should i quit wrting?
KennyIsArlos said:All of the songs are from 2010 and older, due to it being a period piece.
That’s okay if they’re songs that you enjoy! You’re the omniscient ruler of the characters’ universe, so truth be told, you’re gonna have a better grasp of what song fits the mood better than they do.Ohhhh... I'm gonna have to reveal my age and ignorance here... I know maybe one in six of those artists and practically none of the songs...
2010?! That was yesterday!![]()

I like to compile playlists for my stories, but they somehow always end up featuring songs that I enjoy, not necessarily the folks inhabiting the worlds I've created...

Offhand, I'd add something from Simon and Garfunkel. Some truly iconic work and great harmony, plus some interesting lyrics. The first Monday of each month, I do a reading response activity with my eighth graders where I play a song for them and they have to do some literal response, and some connection and find the figurative language etc. I choose all the songs. I've told them up front that the main reason I do this activity is to expose them to what I subjectively identify as "good music". I tell them that when I was in Grade 6, I had a teacher who did that for us, and I never forgot the songs and artists he exposed me to for the first time (Beach Boys, Jim Croce, Ramones, Harry Chapin), so I was hoping to have the same impact on this generation by sharing songs that I love.
Here's some of the songs on my list.
Rocky Raccoon - The Beatles
Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell
I Don't Wanna Grow Up - The Ramones
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce
Matthew - John Denver
My Girl - The Temptations
Moonshadow - Cat Stevens
Sugar Mountain - Neil Young
Pretty heavy on the 1970's, I know. Because it's the best decade of music ever. Full stop.
I'd be interested in song suggestions from this group. If you could pick one song to share with a group of middle school learners: if you could introduce them to a band for the first time, and maybe influence their musical preferences for the rest of their lives, which would you choose, and why?
I'm more than ecstatic to give you a song suggestion, but you may not like it!I'd be interested in song suggestions from this group. This is really specific! I wouldn't do this song justice if I tried to share it, but I think I should have you in as a guest teacher to share it. You've clearly got the required passion.I'm more than ecstatic to give you a song suggestion, but you may not like it!If I had to choose a song to possibly influence a middle schooler's life, I'd pick Bury the Light by Casey Edwards. It's a 10-minute masterpiece specifically made for Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, detailing the history and emotions of the tragic character known as Vergil, Son of Sparda.
It's a song where, without any context of the lore from the game series, you can understand how Vergil's experiences have shaped who he is: a sad and lonely man who has been through literal and metaphorical Hell, desperate to obtain power the power that he lacked as a child, that could have saved his mother. He clashes with his brother Dante, with both seething hatred for the carefree sibling who received their mother's last words as comfort, and burning envy for the life he would have had, had their fates been switched (or so he says).
The song accomplishes this through the lyrics, sang by the all-talented Victor Borba (who will swap between falsetto and screamo on a dime drop), the emotional buildups that explode with energy during the unforgettable chorus, and definitely not least--the absolutely sick guitar riffs. You don't have to be a musician to keep hitting the repeat button in appreciation.
Sorry for the ramble, I passionately love this song! Casey Edwards has created something truly special for a character that many fans love. If you're interested, music producer Alex Moukala conducted an interview with Casey Edwards on his process for creating Bury the Light. I'd definitely suggest to watch it if you have the time! There's also a complete 1-hour interview, though I only linked the 10-minute shortened one.
Agreed! Passion is a big part of what makes lessons so interesting, in any shape or form. It's sort of like when a mother cooks something for her child, and she tells them that it's made with love. Even professional chefs who don't necessarily put love into each meal they make, have cultivated the recipe with time, effort, appreciation, and passion. Weird tangent, I know, but it makes sense doesn't it?This is really specific! I wouldn't do this song justice if I tried to share it, but I think I should have you in as a guest teacher to share it. You've clearly got the required passion.
That passion is a key ingredient in my song selections. I know the songs inside and out. I love them. And because I love them I've researched about them and learned all the meanings (intended or otherwise) and interpretations and trivia. I think the main reason why this lesson is successful is because I can't help but contain my passion for the songs I select and want to share.
Love your song list and the whole concept of your lesson!'d be interested in song suggestions from this group. This is good advice. I need something besides writing to help me through the times when the writing isn't going well.Everything is good in moderation!
