Needs its own thread, but I'm hooked on the new Cross series.

(Warning though: one of my triggers is teeth stuff and I had to look away from those scenes.)
I watched the first episode and liked it a lot. But "watch" maybe isn't the right word -- that episode was so visually dim that even in a pretty dark room I could barely make out what was happening on screen. Please tell me that they brought in some lighting for the rest of the episodes!

We recently finished Disclaimer on Apple TV+, short at seven episodes total.

It took a little while to be sure we had straight which young-and-gorgeous character became which actor-you-know adult, in this case Cate Blanchett, a very serious Sacha Baron Cohen, and a WTF British Kevin Kline. The premise is that a lurid tell-all book by an unknown is way, way too close to the truth of a successful person's past--is the author trying to ruin their life?

Maybe.

The ending was not what I expected and all the more powerful for it.

In what could be a positive or negative depending on one's tastes, it's also one of the more sexually graphic shows I've seen. It was part of the story and fade to black would not have worked.

Maryn, recommending it

I've got my comfort show Bones that I watch on Peacock
Arcane since the finale season just came out on Netflix (I've spoiled the ending for myself, but still worth the watch)
And High Potential - a new police procedural that won't be back on until after the holidays, so kinda sucks there, but I get it. Actors have lives too. Watch it on Hulu

Might seem like a lot of programs, but my family has perfected the method of sharing. I pay for hulu, my stepdad for Netflix, and my sister for Peacock

We are almost through with Star Wars: Rebels, and I will miss it. Almost as good as The Clone Wars.

I couldn't get into that. Gave up in E3. I just didn't like any of these people. Is it worth jumping to the ending?

I'm watching Interior Chinatown (Hulu), which is crazy weird.

And Say Nothing, also Hulu, which is wicked violent. "Based on the gripping true story set in Northern Ireland during The Troubles that spans four decades, telling the story of various Irish Republican Army members, Say Nothing explores the extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs."

I remember when the interviews people had done with Boston College, that weren't supposed to be made public till after they died, were handed over to Northern Ireland police. Oops.

We watched the first episode of the new Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew. Star Wars meets Goonies, I guess. It has promise. The first two episodes are out on Disney Plus currently.

A.P. Bio (Peacock & Netflix)

My wife and I absolutely loved this when it originally came out, but when seasons 3 and 4 were made they were put on Peacock, which we don't subscribe to.

When it was recently moved to Netflix we watched from the beginning and haven't been disappointed. Hilarious writing.

Is it okay to talk about old TV shows here or do we need a thread called What's on TV then? :) Recently, I've been watching older TV shows - Quantum Leap, Moonlighting, Father Dowling Mysteries. And I'm planning to get back into Northern Exposure soon too (something I bounce back to a lot). Also love Twin Peaks and Lost (though I've seen them so much I don't need to rewatch either for a long while). A lot of older sitcoms too - The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Caroline in the City, Wings, Cheers, and Frasier (a constant standby). Many of these are old favourites but some of them feel like new TV to me too because I never watched some of them or barely watched them (Quantum Leap, Moonlighting, The Mary Tyler Moore Show) and recently bought many of them on digital or DVD so it's like I'm only catching up on some stuff from the 70s and 80's NOW lol.

To keep this to new TV shows too, I've warmed a bit to the new Frasier. It's not a patch on the original, but it's gotten a little better. I want to get back to Slow Horses too (loved the first two seasons) but overall I'm not following many new TV shows - find it hard to get into them or, when I do, I tend to bail after a couple of seasons. (The Morning Show is one of many I gave up on.) Some of this could be difficulty keeping track of things as they air/stream but also not sure if they'll be cancelled. Or just that I tend to always be behind on things. Maybe I'll catch up on some of what's current now in 30 or 40 years (if I'm still around) and they'll feel new then to me even though by then they're old to everyone else!

We watched the first two episodes of the animated show, Creature Commandos, the first entry of James Gunn's new DC Studios' DC Comics TV and movie universe. I like a lot of Gunn's work. So far, so good, but I reserve the right to change my mind as the show proceeds. I'm not a hundred percent sold, but it's intriguing. It's basically the Suicide Squad with monsters, and even has some choice Mary Shelley quotes. The show airs on MAX (formerly HBOMax).

Watching Sisterhood of Dune. Good stuff! Lots of intrigue set in the Dune universe some decades after The Butlerian Jihad. The focus is on the women of the Bene Gesserit in its early days, which is more interesting to me than the mostly male characters of the original Dune series. I love the sets, costumes, acting. Can't get enough.

Started Disclaimer on Apple TV as well. I'm interested, but I need subtitles to catch all the nuances.

We never enjoyed Big Bang Theory (too rude), but Young Sheldon hooked us for the sweet, kind, family dynamic + nerdy kid who challenges religion.

I was willing to try the spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, though my honey wasn't, so I watch episodes when he's busy elsewhere. It's not gripping comedy, not as good as Young Sheldon, but it's cute... And... for a goofy comedy, it has the best (the best) opening title sequence ever. Like a tango between the two MCs, racy, somehow it fits while being entirely orthoganol to the spirit of the show.

Some of the streaming services aren't available in Costa Rica--Hulu, for example. Right now I'm too cheap to pay for anything but Netflix. Some of their offerings aren't licensed here, but most of the really good stuff is. Bojack Horseman and Bridgerton, for example. Spouse refuses to watch them but then I don't bother with his car shows either, so the TV time evens out. We watch Seinfeld over and over because we love it. Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul. The Sopranos. Right now 100 Years of Solitude is streaming, and it is GORGEOUS.

I've often wondered what it must have been like to live in the Renaissance, when so much great art was being produced. Shakespeare! Michelangelo! How could you not have been absolutely giddy? Actually I probably would have been too busy digging potatoes to notice, but now! All I have to do is decode the goddamned remote and I can choose to partake of a dizzying array of what some of the finest human minds have ever produced. I'm not a sentimental type at all, but I treasure this great privilege.

Also, I've never had polio. So there's that.

Started watching Rugged Rugby, another Korean reality show by the (I think) same producers responsible for Physical 100 and Culinary Class Wars. Seven rugby teams, including the Korean Army one, two college ones, and the rest league teams compete for a prize and beforehand have to test their skills in scrumming, running, and kicking. I don't know a lot about rugby but it's so engrossing to watch! The camera work really makes it interesting.

The last two episodes of Creature Commandos have been amazing frankly. James Gunn gets you emotionally invested in two of the least likely characters, and I literally cried two weeks in a row over the trauma of GI Robot and Weasel of all characters. Also, on a related note, saw the trailer for Gunn's upcoming Superman film and it looks fantastic.

We found an old Christmas special from 1977 on YouTube. I remember watching it once when it came out, and I had forgotten about it until the recent UFO flap started. It's called A Cosmic Christmas, and it is a delight. Three wise aliens come to Earth to find the meaning of Christmas.

Just FYI, Rifftrax recently tackled this one: Rifftrax - A Cosmic Christmas (offsite link, SFW)

This is the only month of the year where I pay for TSN. (It's the World Juniors.) Why I pay money to let teenagers decide my mental health for the next two weeks is beyond me.

I am looking forward to starting Black Dove. I haven't been properly obsessed with a series since Derry Girls, but I adore Ben Whishaw.

Watched Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story on Netflix. I'd never heard of this guy so it was a new, nasty discovery for me. Savile was a former wrestler turned TV reporter/host/philanthropist who molested dozens, hundreds, of women and children during his tenure of 50 years as a BBC icon. The closest American equivalent to this would be if Dick Clark had been suddenly revealed as a serial molester. I still can't wrap my head around how weird this man was, and how accepted and beloved he was by the public, and how the clues were all there, right from the start.

You pay to watch teenagers for a month, then they go away! ;) It's not like they're your teenagers, and you're going to have to deal with the over-excitement of victory and the misery of defeat.
Well worth the money, to my mind.

My wife and I discovered Miss Scarlet and the Duke on PBS. It takes place in London in the 1880's. She's a private detective, and very good at it, although she has lots of trouble getting clients.

As good as The Law According to Lidia Poet on Netflix.
