I am not good at putting pictures in and kept getting an error. Hopefully the link works. $3.99/yard for the fabric and $1 for the elastic (which may need to be replaced. I kept it simple because it will be easier to take apart and redo. It’s not going to be in any fashion shows but it should do what I need it to do, which is delay me freezing at the barn. If it works I might try doing a lined one or a nicer band or even a double layer. If I do a double I'll have to use the big machine because my Babylock can't handle it.

The skirt was good but wasn't quite warm enough so I got some material and made a second skirt with lining. It's heavy but it should be warm.
(ignore my messy house)
lined winter riding skirt
It looks warm, alright, but definitely heavy. Can you mount a horse while wearing it? And does Fluffy like it?

More importantly, how does Fluffy look in it? Does it flatter her profile? Does it make her butt look big?

Blue and gray aren’t really her colors, unfortunately. If Fluffy doesn't like it there will be a photo of a Brigid-shaped crater in the arena footing and a sarcastic remark. 😂 I will find out tomorrow when it will be cold enough that I'm going to truly be able to test it.

And, the skirt looks 'safe': it doesn't look like it will flap or flutter when Fluffy moves, so less likely to freak Fluffy out. Unlike, say, a lighter, looser skirt.
I thought of this too! Because it's polyester fleece I expect it will be "sticky" on my pants. Of course if I've been walking around I'll need to find something metal to touch so I don't zap the horse. 🤣

From what you've told us about her, she'd probably deeply resent that. Gates and stall-door latches are most often metal, aren't they?

Oh, I suspect Fluffy would not react well to electro-static shock! Particularly if it happens just as you've got your foot in a stirrup!:e2smack:🐎😲

It occurs to me, thinking of the title of this tread, that 100 years ago your fellow women riders would have deeply envied your washable plush polyester lining. I image that to get the same warmth, they'd be reduced to quilting, because you can only wear so may layers of petticoats and still get on a horse!

Elizabeth I was an avid horse woman and probably had way more clothes to wear 500 years ago! In either case, yes, my machine washable, no ironing technically necessary wonder skirt would probably be considered a marvel.

As a side note, my husband was impressed that I was able to do it without a pattern. 😂

I accidentally zapped her one time. The electric fence did something it wasn't supposed to and when my arm touched the metal gate I got defibulated and Fluffy got a zap right to the nose. She still stays away from the gate.
