As a newcomer to Absolute Write, I offer my congratulations to all who contributed to this project.

Could I suggest, though, that the original post be edited with an update on the publication and appropriate links to purchase it? The thread has 100+ pages and it was a bit of a challenge for this first-time visitor to even find the anthology's name.

Is a sequel being considered?

Just wanted to congratulate and thank the authors who made it in. I finished reading Absolute Visions today, and I must say, you're a talented bunch. :)

Thanks Cliff Face! If you have the time, maybe you could post a short review on Amazon? It might bring it to more people's attention.

I somehow failed to notice this sticky in the handful of visits I've made here over the last year until today. Fueled by myopia and lack of sleep, I concluded I should put a ton of work into a story of mine that I love to death but couldn't get an editor to see in the same light.

Four hours later, a year-old call for submissions on AW has unquestionably helped me produce a manuscript that gleams with polish the previous version only dreamed of during its six-month torpor. Thanks!

On another note, I definitely need to pick up a copy of this anthology!

I am working on them.

With persistant pesterings...

So far no luck but it is only a matter of time :)

Dude, it cost around $3000.00 U.S. to produce.

So no, not any time soon.

On the other hand, the author/artist copies are about to go out. We just need to put them in envelopes and ship 'em.

Ooh, exciting! I finally got the spare dosh to buy myself a hard copy this week, and now I'll have 2! Maybe I'll give the spare away on my blog and use the opportunity to promote the book.

Yeah, I've been thinking that I might do a contest on my blog as well with my author's copy as a prize (I bought myself a copy from Amazon months ago, so I already have one for myself).

Not yet - I suck (and my dad had a stroke a few weeks ago, so I've been pretty distracted) they're still sitting in a box in my living room, waiting for me to print out labels and stuff 'em in the mailers.

I'm sorry, guys - please feel free to keep right on nudging me. It's disgraceful that I've dropped the ball so badly on the contributor copies, and I really am sorry.

Mac, it's fine. Contributor copies aren't a massive, urgent, terrible thing. I know I'd have bought my own copy even if a contributor copy had been sent straight away. I'm just holding off on doing a giveaway for a little longer because I've already managed to dog-ear the bought copy that arrived!

No worries, Mac. Family does come first, always. (It's the big reason I've been no-show for August and probably won't be around much in the foreseeable future.) Just wanted to make sure the little thieves that love to rob neighborhood mail boxes didn't get mine.

I'm going to mail them next week, come hell or high water - I've set the box of books where I actually fall over it when I come in or go out of the house, in fact.

A little bird told me that our book is going to be shown at an industry party in New York in December :) It's an annual party celebrating authors who have published in the past year.

I'll gladly send details to anyone interested :) I can't really say here, because I'll blow my pen name!

**backslashbaby wasn't here and said nothing that could be tied to a specific author ;) **

Dankers, Mac! :D

Nope, wasn't here--but it's nice to have a fly on the wall to give us more info later. :wag:

Hey, do we happen to know if the anth, and/or stories in it, are eligible to be nominated for the Nebulas? I'd google the nominating criteria myself, but I'm on dialup, and I figured maybe someone else already knew the answer :)

I found this on the SFWA site:

5. Nebula Awards will be made in the following categories:

  1. Short Story: less than 7,500 words;
  2. Novelette: at least 7,500 words but less than 17,500 words;
  3. Novella: at least 17,500 words but less than 40,000 words
  4. Novel: 40,000 words or more.
    1. At the author’s request, a novella-length work published individually, rather than as a part of a collection, anthology, or other collective work, shall appear in the novel category.
[Apparently, the stories within, but not the anthology as a whole, qualify for nomination.]

6. Eligibility

  1. All works first published in English, in the United States, during the calendar year, in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, or a related fiction genre are eligible for the Nebula Awards® in their respective categories.
    1. Works such as comic books, graphic novels, and similar type works shall be placed in an existing category as deemed appropriate by the Nebula Awards Commissioner, based primarily on their word count.
    2. The Nebula Awards Commissioner will decide the eligibility of a questionable work.
  2. Works first published in English on the Internet or in electronic form during the calendar year shall be treated as though published in the United States.
  3. Word counts for translated works shall be based on the English word count.
  4. Works not yet released to the general public, such as review copies for a forthcoming work or works published in a password protected or limited distribution workshop, shall not be eligible for nomination or the final ballot until the work is actually released and available to the general public.
  5. The novel-length version of a previously published short story, novelette, or novella shall be eligible upon the novel’s first English-language publication in the United States. A novel re-issued in expanded or modified form shall not be eligible unless previously withdrawn in accordance with the rules. A short story, novelette, or novella based on a previously-published version of the work shall not be eligible.
  6. Works are eligible whether or not their authors are members of SFWA. Works are eligible whether or not they have been previously published outside of the United States.
[And, apparently, the stories are all eligible.]
My apologies: the sub-sections should be a., b. and i., ii., etc. The ordered list function here doesn't seem to allow me to input the text that way.
