This competition is being run by Inkitt, which is YADS (yet another display site). We have a thread about Inkitt here.

From the first page of that thread it seems hey have a history of spamming people online with their competition promotions; they don't seem to announce the winners of their competitions so it's hard to know if there are winners, and if so, what those winners get from the competitions; they allow(ed) people to import their work from fanfiction sites without requiring login details, which has huge implications with regard to plagiarism. And that's only the first page out of six. Goodness knows what's on the next five pages.

I wouldn't bother.

And it's no surprise that they are spamming -- yet again -- from a variety of Twitter accounts, including Story Book, Coffee Corner, Publishers_Club, Publishers_Week, Readers_Script, Talk Freely, Love Words, Educate All, Readers_House, Book Library, Got Books, Librarians United, Publishers_Week, Read Allday, Keep Writing, Typewriters Fiction, Read Goal and Context Define.

There are others.

They are prolific with the spam and have plenty of contests to choose from. To summarize a bit of the other thread: Inkitt are a contest/agency/publisher all at once with a special reader algorithm that'll apparently sell books and which appears to also be really good at bot creation. They've popped up on Writer Beware and a couple of other blogs.

Probably not a contest anyone should sub to.

Banned for spamming. And for PM spamming.

Funny how spam isn't generally considered marketing by legit publishers.

Haha,

"Re: Publishing Opertunity"

Geeze, if you're gonna try to scam me into some "writing contest" at least use the spell check.

Sort of wish I'd seen this before I entered. Not that it matters--my story isn't doing well enough to warrant a publishing deal (and it sounds like I wouldn't want one with them anyway). Thanks for the info.

Earlier today I received this Direct Message to my Twitter account:

Marvin Wey sent you a Direct Message.
Hey Lisa, I just launched a free novel contest where the winner gets offered a publishing deal and I'd be ready to pay up to 15$ per writer that you referred and that enters the contest (inkitt.com/novelcontest). Is that something you'd be interested in discussing further? I'd be happy to set up a quick call. Best, Marvin

  • Asking me to pimp a contest for pay says a lot about inkitt.
  • This is not the behavior of a reputable trade publisher.
  • You don't see Penguin, or Random House or Tor or Farrar Strauss and Giraux or Knopf or W. W. Norton or or or ... doing this.

I've blocked him.

You might want to read up on Inkitt here.
