I searched Preditors and Editors and here, but can't find any info.

One of the employees put up their guidelines on the eDedicatedAuthor group in Yahoo groups.

Anyone know if they're legit?

Thanks,

I saw that, but threw it away. I think it had some red flags for me, but can't remember what it said any more. Can you post it here?

Would like confirmation of the name at least. The only Google hit for "christianbooks1" is a sub-category on a bargain books site.

The paragraph I changed to red above is the warning bell one for me. Overall, it sounds like a disguised vanity press. Just want to confirm my gut "delete it" feeling.

What do you mean, disguised? It's just another vanity POD. The only difference is that this one says Christian, Christian, Christian in their come-on.

Indeed. Their error-riddled excerpts reveal much.

That would have to be a rather unusual cookbook! Reminds me of one of my favorite lines a Sunday School teacher liked to use about people who make too much of a show of being pious - "The sort who eat Christian cookies and wear Christian underwear."

Just so: what this household refers to as "lifestyle Christians."

Some very wicked scam agents have paraded their "Christian values."

Christian cookbooks?

How about Dining with Diocletian, which includes a chapter on how to roast Christians whole, Christian in a Barrel, Christian flambee, what to do if your lions are finicky eaters, and ten new ways to serve Christians when the kids are saying "Not leftover Christian again! We had that last night!"

They must've really picked their brains to find the worst way to describe the slant they were looking for.

James- I haven't laughed that hard in weeks, thanks!

Well, now that things have gone into cannibalism, let me mention www.eathufu.com - their product is billed as the "healthy human flesh alternative."

They are NOT a vanity press. They are a small press - traditional publishing house. They just opened their doors in May, 2005.

Gloria, how did you come by your information?

One of the names to which prospective authors should send their queries is Gloria. Would that be you, by any chance?

Hi, Gloria. May I assume you're Gloria Lyons, co-owner (along with your husband, Pastor Lyons) of the company in question? I'm in Tucson also.

Good luck with your publishing venture.

The Network Marketing/Pyramid selling schemes in the UK claimed to be a "christian" business. A friend of mine who had been suckered in religion also got suckered into selling Amway products (Or not selling them, as most people ran a mile.)

I wonder what a "christian cookbook" contains!

Christian Books 1 has gone out of business. If you really want the truth... pray.

That's...interesting.

(Off-topic for this thread (and I see that the thread is old), just thought I'd answer this.) It could be a cookbook with, for example, traditional foods for saints' feast days -- often presented as a tool for teaching children about faith/culture/history in an enjoyable way. Another might be a book that incorporates thoughts about living a Christian life amid the craziness of family life/domestic work, with practical advice/recipes. I'm sure I've seen others, but I'm not thinking of them now.

(The previous answer was funnier, though. :tongue)
