• Read this stickie before posting.

    • In order to reduce the number of new members requesting a Beta reader before they're really ready for one, we've instituted a 50 post requirement before you can start a thread seeking a Beta reader.
    • You can still volunteer to Beta for someone else; just please don't request someone to Beta for you until you're more familiar with the community and our members.
  • We’re running on a new server at a new host with a new forum software called XenForo. Some things are different. Some things may not work as expected. I am working on it as fast as I can. Please be patient. Please read this post.
  • I'm going to be working on the forums for a while. Things may be wonky. I may turn the forums off without notice. Consider this a bit of a public beta test as we figure out the new software and make adjustments. But you've been much missed, and we can't wait to see you again!

I am in need of a copy editor for my novel, which could best be described as a YA Post-Apocalyptic Pseudo-Western. The project is 34 chapters.

I am available to do a beta/copyedit exchange as well, so please reach out to me if you're interested.

Fwiw, there's a very big difference between beta reading and a copy-editing. It's like asking someone to taste a meal you've cooked to check whether the flavor combinations work for them vs asking them to show you, step-by-step, how to prepare a five course, gourmet meal for a banquet. One is a far more involved and time-consuming process than the other!

Which isn't to say you won't strike it lucky and find someone willing (and capable!) of filling both roles in one hit (and for free!). You might! Just be aware that you're asking a lot of a volunteer. :)

Maybe I worded it incorrectly. I am only looking for someone to copyedit. I am offering in exchange my OWN services as a beta reader or a copyeditor.

Ha. Okay, let me clarify. :) Of your two initial requests, "copy-editing" is the super-involved one. I assume you're looking for a volunteer (even if it's a swap, there's no payment involved), and asking someone to do a full copy-edit for free is a BIG ask. Again, maybe you'll find someone willing to do it (if so, congrats!), but of the various kinds of editing (eg: MS assessment, proofreading, copy-editing), there's a reason copy-editing usually costs the most!!
