Has anyone heard about Riptide press. They are an untraditional fantasy publisher. I think they're new. Let's make sure they are not another PA

I don't really know too much about them other than they only put out one book, and that was back in 2003. However, the book in question (Gideon's Wall) is very, very good. I don't know if the book is returnable, but I have seen a copy of it out in the wild.

If you do approach them, I'd be curious about their response.

Their website is currently down.

(I just looked up Gideon's Wall on Amazon, and their "Better Together" thing lists my book with it. That's pretty cool.)

It went defunct over the summer. Here it is on Ralan's:

Riptide Press, Inc. - was print novel publisher; sf/f/fiction. Paid royalties. (e-mail defunct) Greg Kurzawa, Editor. DoD: 2Jul05

Seems like it was set up only to print Mr. Kurzawa's book - the defunct email address, yup, went directly to Mr. Kurzawa.

Here's the curious thing: the website riptidepress.com says its under construction, so maybe it's being restarted (or started) by someone else? But if you type in the URL used in the email address above (riptidebooks.com), it comes up with...a list of "related" websites, like Dorrance Press.

I think I'd pass.

Mr. Kurzawa apparently bought both riptidebooks.com (the URL JerseyGirl posted) and riptidepress.com (which still works, but hasn't been updated since 2002).

Riptide Press Answers

Hello, Everyone:
RiptidePress isn't dead, merely in a state of deep hybernation. Our original intent was to cut our teeth in the publishing world on Kurzawa's work, then expand. Unfortunately, Gideon's Wall didn't make the waves we thought it would, so much of what we'd planned had to be put on hold. Most likely we'll publish Kurzawa's next work in 2007, but that depends on Greg. JerseyGirl mentioned that email was down, and that's true; we were hacked and our web presence was down for some months. Email is up now, though.

No sign of revival.
