Re: GREAT WORK

Travis, what revenue stream do you foresee for Reveal?

Heather who?

I don't usually make judgments about authenticity so quickly, but that interview just rings hollow to me. The words of "Heather" don't sound like anything a real woman would utter. They sound like what a man would make up, using his idealized fantasy image of a woman.

Travis Swanson

Authentic

They are 100% authentic answers from Heather that were not changed in any way shape or form. You can see her pictures on the site in a few days. I keep signed copies of all the release forms for interviews and photos on file.

Overall, how do you feel I did with the interview and the readability?

Travis Swanson

Authentic

The interview is 100% real. Everything that she said is 100% her words, not changed one bit. Period.

You can see her pictures on the site in a few days. She is a really cool women.

I also keep signed release forms on file for all the interviews and photos I post of the women.

I'm looking for feedback on the quailty of the content. Did it interest you? Was it easy to read? What else would you like to read about her? etc.

Re: Authentic

lol you really haven't seen the Paris Hilton video yet? I can't avoid it, even if I try, and I'm even a (big) fan of porn. :lol

"I'm looking for feedback on the quailty of the content. Did it interest you? Was it easy to read? What else would you like to read about her? etc."

Feedback isn't the purpose of the Bewares Board. May I suggest the Share Your Work forum, a little way up the page?

But here are my answers: "Did it interest you?" Minimally. "Was it easy to read?" Yes. "What else would you like to read about her?" I'd like to know why her answers are so stereotyped. What's inside her head, and why is it so alone? Did this poor girl have no role model but a Barbie doll?

Mr. Swanson, I'm just not part of your target audience. First, I'm female. (Your reference to "the women" suggests you intend a men's magazine.) Second, I look for stimulation when I read. I find reading matter superficial and boring if it gives me nothing more to think about than "People" magazine would.

Re: testing

Mr. Swanson seems to think that spamming a message board is one key to success. That cost him at least one potential writer and reader.

Re: Reveal magazine

This is completely laughable. I can afford to pay my writers a contributor's copy, and yet every single query is answered politely and promptly. I'd expect a magazine with a beginning press run of 350,000 to have tact.

Re: Reveal magazine

I'm still interested in how ol' Travis plans to make money with this venture.

Does he have any advertisers lined up? Is he planning to sell subscriptions? What does he have that there isn't more of, and better, elsewhere on the Web?

Me, I'm thinking that this is just 1001 Delights Part II, and I'm willing to start a dead pool on when reveal-magazine.com goes 404.

Re: Reveal magazine

I'm going to be generous and say Dec '04, since he probably paid for his domain name a year in advance. But no new content after June.

Heather revisited

Mr. Swanson, I admitted earlier that I was female, a handicap in estimating the appeal of the Heather interview. To compensate, I got a second opinion from my husband, who has something I lack that your prospective readers would also have. So here's what a being who's blessed with that all-important Y chromosome said: He found the interview dull. Sorry, but that's what he said.

I understand that you're still assembling materials and what you showed us is in beta form. But it would take more than Heather's photo, plus the interview itself, to tell readers who this woman is. Usually, people who give interviews have done something special, or they're promoting a book or a movie of theirs. Is Heather a writer? Is she an actress? In short, why should the audience be interested in her in the first place?

Travis is FOS.

Here's what I was told around July of 2003.

In short , Travis is full of crap. His numbers make no sense. He's simply trying to get ahead by acting like a "big boy".

FROM TRAVIS:

"Traffic will open Sept 1 with 11,451 paying customers already and growing. I have models out at bars every night selling subscriptions. I have 4 long term contracts with nightclubs. 6 1-year contracts with national clothing lines. 2 photographers and 100+ models. My advertising dollars have already exceeded $850,000 in incoming revenue toward printing and distribution."

In the other Reveal Magazine thread I've started a dead pool. When do you think they'll go out of business?

You people are just don't want to wish anyone else success. That is a very sad thing. Reveal has made huge strides and is growing daily. By 2005 you will see us on every news stand and on TV. If you don't want to wish us well, we still wish you well.

Reveal

Travis, that's gracious of you, in view of all the negativity here, but I'm afraid you might not understand what some of us have been trying to say. A magazine won't last long if it doesn't engage the reader. What I saw of your on-line sample didn't offer content that was new and different.

I wish you success, too; but wishing isn't predicting.

"Reveal-Magazine.com will be a huge success in conquering a niche in the market that has been waiting to be conquered. We have already received an overwhelming load of letters from interested readers who have been approached by our marketing team. Please visit Reveal-Magazine.com for more information and updates."

Only one issue on-line: December 2003. The more recent content seems to be stuff that's sucked in by little java ap p lets from other sites. Many of the pages are still "Under Construction."

In other words, this magazine never came to life. What's left is a zombie, shambling along until the domain registration runs out.

I still wish Travis well, wherever he is.

Ah -- I'd written to [email protected] and I've just now heard back from Travis. He says, in part, that he has 300+ subscriptions and is looking at a December, 2004 launch.

A bit of a comedown from the 35,000 pre sold issues that he'd claimed a year ago, but still, he's in there swinging.

Best of luck, Travis.
