Like many others before me, I am a victim of PA/ASB's scam. My contract with them was lost in a flood, so I wondered if anyone here would be willing to send me a copy of their contract. Peggy Dickson, [email protected]. Thank you!

Hi, Peggy D, and welcome to AbsoluteWrite, even if the occasion for your arrival is less than happy.

I urge you to do two things. First, remove your email from your post by editing it. Every forum has literally hundreds of bots that seek email addresses to sell in bulk to... well, nobody you want emailing you. Anyone here who has the contract and opts to share can reach you through a private Conversation, where you can exchange email addresses.

Two, stroll on over to the New Members section and introduce yourself. We'd like to get to know you better.

Hi Peggy, and welcome to AW. I'm sorry you were a victim of that publisher.

Not every author will have received the exact same contract, so I'm not sure someone else's contract would benefit you. The main thing you'd need to know is when your contract with them expires, and that would be unique to you. Since they largely went out of business in 2017, I don't know how much joy you'd get contacting PA/ASB to ask for a copy, though.

There's some info you might find helpful HERE (<-- that's a clickable link).

But, sadly, the best advice I can give you is to forget about that book and write a new, better one, and submit that to legitimate publishers or literary agents.

PublishAmerica is kaput, and has been for three or four years now. We have an entire subforum for them which I'll link to once I get home (hard to do on my phone). EDIT: See Brigid's link below.

As for your contract, we are not lawyers here but by all accounts there is nothing that can be done, and nobody to take action against. There's a website call Writer Beware that has kept up with this more than AW has. I'll link to it as well when I can. EDIT: https://www.sfwa.org/other-resources/for-authors/writer-beware/ Victoria Strauss's blog Unimportant linked to is excellent too.

I came to AW because I was one of their "50,000 happy author's." I've learned a ton here since then, with AW as my writerly home. I hope you find AW as welcoming as I did!
