My cousin is a lawyer and he talks about delays as just being part of the game.
As a lawyer, I can say that delays happen even when you're trying to prevent them. One side or another could have a family emergency. The judge might have the same. Or another obligation pops up for someone that they absolutely cannot get out of (non-emergency surgery, nephew's out of town wedding, etc.) Yes, some attorneys and some companies do purposely delay things, but without the paperwork on the case, we can't say whether it's being delayed on purpose, or because of a legitimate reason. And there are lots of things that could be legitimate reasons. If the judge has granted the continuance, then we have to assume it was a legitimate reason, or it would have been denied. Could it be a fake reason to delay? Sure. But we don't know that.
