Hi all!
I was wondering if we might enjoy a running post about our feelings on poetry we have read or heard recently. I am rediscovering poetry myself and so have delved into whatever poetry collections are available at my library. I have also gleamed what recommendations I can off people in my life, but boy would I like to share and also get recommendations from you!
I'll start off but I hope we can keep this going whenever we discover something new or something old that we remember how great it was when it was new to us.
Mods? Am I out of line? Is this not needed? Feel free to merge me or smack me down.
Here goes...
Many Miles, Mary Oliver - Wow! She probably needs no spotlight. What a gentle and enlightened soul she seemed to be. This collection filled me with such positive light. Listened as on audiobook. Listened and relistened.
The Twenty-Ninth Year, Hala Alyan - Very confessional, although sometimes I wondered if I was engaging with her poet persona or the real her. Definitely felt worth my time either way.
A Certain Clarity, Lawrence Joseph - A collection of his work through the years. Bit of a slog for me. Some high moments but sometimes it felt like a UN report on the humanitarian situations of various war torn regions.
The Essential Dylan Thomas - Endlessly entertaining. "Under Milk Wood" is something I will certainly come back to. Beautiful, funny, profane. Such a good cast on the version I listened to.
The Hurting Kind, Ada Limon - Such a light touch. The language gave me many moments that stopped my thoughts in their tracks. Her persona feels full of life and open minded.
