I wonder if Rebecca will be opening to queries since she switched agencies. She's been high on my list for people I think would be a good match, but she's been closed since I started querying.

Also, does anyone know anything about Donovan? I don't see background really listed for him and am wondering if he's a brand new agent.

I think he is brand new. There’s nothing listed for him in PM other than an agent page that was updated March 18. The original page has him listed as an agent with Palisade Literary Agency for two years, but there are no actual sales listed under his name. Neither Donovan or Palisade are listed on QT.

I'm wondering too. She "rejected" me with an invitation to query her at her new agency, so I will probably do that when she opens. I had been in her inbox a long time, so I imagine this was a long time coming.

Considering I never got a "no" from Eric while he was still at PS Literary when I queried him back in September, would it be crazy to query him now that he's got the whole new agency thing going on? Because if the query was in the hopper while he was in the midst of starting up a new agency, it might not be a traditional CNR.

...actually, should I even bother asking this or just query him?

I would query him! (maybe withdraw your other one with a note?) I actually got a reject from another agent at this agency, Rebecca Podos, like two weeks ago and her reject said (paraphrasing) "I'm leaving this agency, please query me at my new one!".

Edit: :ROFLMAO: I just realized I literally just said this in my prior post. I have colander brain, sorry! Query him!!

I wondered the same thing, but I think I'm not going to. I figure he saw it and it wasn't for him so I'm just going to hope Rebecca opens. She's a better fit for my MS anyway.

Throw that query into the void!

Received a very quick rejection from Eric Smith (2-day turnaround) with a note that he's trying to focus on shorter MG these days. Considering FGI (MG fantasy) is 65k words, it's probably not a terribly useful reference point for anybody looking to decide whether they're a good fit because there's a pretty wide window on shorter.

It is a good data point for those who wonder if they should query him when he didn't answer a query at the old agency. He rejected without a, "Haven't I seen this before?" and with a personal note on why he's rejecting. Suggests it's okay to query again for those in a similar situation.

Okay, I'm going to just go for it and send it to him again anyway. I saw that he's referred some people and since he has different people he's working for now, I might as well. I guess the worst that happens is I get a no.

Poop, looks like Eric was one of the few agents I queried with my Jack Frost novel, which I think would be a good fit for him (and clearly did before). I never got a response, but it was ages ago, so I don't think I'm in Nether's situation.

Anyone have any dealings with the founder of Neighborhood Literary, Eric Smith? Looks like he opened it this year, 2025?

I"ll move this one as well. @9Ford7, please keep these questions within Bewares, Recommendations, and Background Checks, and please check the index before starting a new thread, and please provide a link to the business you are asking about.

Eric Smith is a well known literary agent that I've subbed to several times.

My apologies. I'll be very careful next time, and make sure I'm posting in the correct thread. And add a link.

There is a pinned thread in this area with Formerly Known as Index as part of the title. Follow the links to find the agency or publisher in question.

When that fails, there are new threads all the time and some don't get indexed immediately, there is a Search forums along the top between Watched and Mark forums read. Click that. Put the name of the agent/agency or publisher in question there in the first field, check the title only box and search. I just learned about how to use Search forums recently and I've been a member for a few years.

If both fail, start a thread in Bewares, Recommendations and Background Checks with the website link.
