Hello everyone!

Seems like I haven't been here in like... forever! Some people may still remember me and I sure missed this place.

But let's jump to the crux of this post.

During NaNoWriMo, I usually block a day to post an excerpt from my WIP on my blog. And it just occurred to me that it could be great fun to make it an actual event - blog chain-like!

How about every Friday of November? Excerpts of the length of your choice (ideally around 500 words so that it's fairly fast to read it).

So all of you who are NaNo-ing and blogging and up for it, leave your blog address here and I'll compile a list that everyone can post after their excerpt to invite readers to blog hop!

No obligation to comment (as we'll all be pretty busy), though it might be a good way to take a break/fight writer's block. ;)

Yay!

I know there's a list on NaNo bloggers on the NaNo forums but they don't seem to organize anything particular. I may try to recruit none AWers as well so if some of your NaNo buddies want to join, feel free to give me their URL. ;)

Sounds like fun. I don't want to spam my blog with crappy writing (jk) but once a week won't "kill" my followers, right?

Count me in.

EDIT: Don't you mean 500 words not 500k? 500k words a week...damn.

@Micheal, you can do less of more. Based on my blogging experience (and previous blog chains), 500 words is long enough to be an interesting snippet, yet short enough to be read fast. Given how busy we all are this month, short posts increase the chances of people reading and commenting. ;)

@moreferarum, we don't hate you! Welcome on board!

Oh what a great idea. Sign me up, but mine has to be AFTER the 16th. I'm Nano-ing, but also doing a book tour so completely unreliable on blogging til then.

My blog is at luciesmoker.wordpress.com

Thanks!

@Wonderactivist, contrary to the traditional blog chain, we're not going to go one after the other. The idea is that everyone posts an excerpt on Friday along with the list of the other participants. It's not a problem if you can't participate to all of them. ;)

@Ito, I added you too!

I've just uploaded the first draft of my prologue. It's quite short and needs some elaboration as well as general editing but rules say no editing just writing so I'm sat here chewing my nails.
My current best friend is the 'comment' function meaning that if I don't like something I can highlight and comment what I want to change reading for later editing. So far this is keeping stress levels down but there's no denying my internal editor is throwing a tantrum.
You can find it here: http://mahirnaem.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/nanowrimo-day-2-excerpt.html

Id be really really grateful if anyone could just comment or post some opinions of it.. bearing in mind it's a rough draft - I just want to know if I'm on the right track or if it's something that people would enjoy reading - even though it's non fiction about ancient Egypt.

Thanks!

Meowz -I enjoyed yours! I agree with your comments at the end, especially the comments toward the girl, I think it needs to be caught up in a little more anger (but maybe that's just me looking for drama!) Rather than "I tell her" maybe "I yelled across..." or "he's taken' I tell her, pure anger and lack of sleep causing my outburst"

I did understand that it was all in the heat of the moment without such a heavy description and I some of the language I really enjoyed, I think you've captured the moment and Renee's mood really well. Love the name as well by the way!

Yay! I'm glad you're participating. It's important to post the links of the other participants in your blog post though (or it kind of defeats the purpose!) So please Meowzbark and moreferarum, could you edit your blog post and add a copy of the list of participants available in my first message, please?

And my NaNo name is same as here: Aheila

Yes, definitely needs more show and less telling.
There's a few spots in there that I can squeeze in some brooding. I guess that's both the good and the bad of NaNo. I write more, but it makes me cringe to leave a scene less than perfect.

@Aheila, I edited my post to include the other participants (I knew I forgot something!) and now I'm heading to bed.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's excerpts later on. No slacking people! ;)

Just edited my post to include links to everyone else's blogs and my name over at NaNo is the same as it is here!

Orion - I loved your language and the relationship that builds between a teacher and their students. My media teacher in my last years of school wrote a novel and went on to self publish it, reading your excerpt made me think of his book (which was based in his childhood about his experiences growing up and times at school etc) also because the language was the same, it really engaged me!

BBBurke - When I read 4,100 words in the first day my mouth opened a little bit with shock but I think I'm ok now. I'll definitely be getting some words down in my manuscript tonight! I could really feel the drama in your piece, I want to know what happens next!
