They do seem to be responding very quickly, at least according to The Submission Grinder, so I guess my thrilling period of suspense will be short either way.

BTW, does, "This didn't really work for me" count as a personal rejection? Strictly speaking, I guess it wasn't a "Dear Joan" form letter, so yes. But I almost think I'd prefer the form letter to, "Eh, didn't like it."

I think that was pretty standard form back when JJA was reading slush for F&SF. I have quite a collection of them. Occasionally there'd be a "There's nice writing here but" at the start. (-:

I never got past slush at F&SF under JJA's reign, so I don't have high hopes now either, but so far I seem to be hanging in there. Who knows? This is kind of an atypical story for me. (Trying to level up.)

CC Finlay @ F&SF rejected this same story of mine. He said some nice things about it, but his rejection inspired me to polish it up a bit for Lightspeed. Not sure I know how to polish it further, but I'll keep trying to find it a home.

Lightspeed is fast, but ClarkesWorld is scary-fast. 1-2 day rejections are common. Most places only do that if I submit with crayon and handmade paper...
