Seems the electric company came while we were out getting mom's physical therapy and some groceries. The light might be fixed? It looks different, though. It looks... uh... flat. We'll see what it looks like if and when it comes on tonight.
Oof, as someone who spent over two hours pomping water out of a basement yesterday, I hear you.Down here we're getting soaked and soaked and soaked. Our new roof is leaking, mostly onto the inside of the new front door which was replaced after we got the roof fixed. So I was up all night with towels because GDit we just got those things repaired and they still frakking leak and now on top of it I'm not sleeping because every time I lie down I think of the water ruining the door. I keep telling myself that the rain is so needed, which it is, but they said the roof was sound and it isn't.
Thankfully the rain will stop today.
Time to swab the door again and swap out the towels.
When I got hired, they wanted to xerox a copy of my ID - including the SS card - for "records". I have no idea why the physical little card is somehow more valid than the number that checks out, or why it's needed if she has her official photo ID driver license and birth certificate and other info, but around here many employers seem to want it when they hire you in. (At other times, yeah, just entering the number seems to work, but not for hiring in for some reason.)Employers can check if your SSN is a valid number, why are they asking for the physical card? Not to mention the card can easily be counterfeited. It's a flimsy piece of paper with three color printing and no real security measures.
I have never had to show my SSN card. My son's is here at my house so I know he's never had to show it.
Super cool about learning Spanish! I can relate—I recently rewatched quite a bit of Jane Virgin which (in case you’re unaware) has a major supporting character that mostly speaks in Spanish. I find I pick up a lot that way. Not -necessarily- suggesting you watch Jane Virgin, though it’s got some superb writing in it! Just wondering aloud if there are shows where at least one character frequently speaks Spanish that could complement your Dulingo habit? In random news, I've been using Duolingo to learn Spanish for going on 3 years, and I wondered when I started if I'd really see that much progress as I don't consider myself someone who learns languages easily and didn't do well in my Spanish classes in school. While I doubt I'll ever *speak* Spanish fluently (or speak it well since I physically can't roll my R's) it is fun to encounter Spanish on tv and sometimes irl, and realize I'm understanding more and more. I was quite proud of how much I understood of the Spanish in Encanto when I watched that. And tonight I was watching a silly episode of Warehouse 13 where they got sucked into a telenovela where they could only speak Spanish and understood a lot of that too. Yay me.
