Nothing wrong with showing a little skin here and there, and then some, but we should be careful not to turn this discussion into a picture sharing thread. Also, try not to hot-link images from other sites but save them instead before posting to a third party (as Syn has done) such a Photobucket, which helps to reduce bandwidth.

we can, if you have your own album. No wait. I've posted straight from other accounts on PB when I didn't particularly want that photo in my albums. I think that's okay too.
I think as long as you use PB or some other photo hosting site it's all good. I don't understand hot-links so I had to ask and this was the preferred way to do it.

Basically, we just need to upload pics we want to post to photobucket or another image server like it before we post it here. That's all I know, and I think that's all we have to know.

Thanks Beatrix, I know what bandwidth is now (sort-of) and hotlinking (sort-of) And all I got to say is EEK!! So, am i stealing? Or does PB willingly let you take images? must find out.
Well, I know how to post pics, done a million of 'em. It kinda reads in there that they just do what I do. I did learn how to post a link though, that was very cool. I'll have to try that out.

If you're sharing images from places like Photobucket or ImageShack, the photos don't use nearly as much space, or bandwidth, on AW. Those sites host the images, so they take up very little room on AW's server.
Hot-linking is when you copy pictures directly from non-hosting sites and display them here. They use up much more room on the server and can bog down the system when too many are posted.
Also, you have to be careful of hyper-linking to sites to direct members to photos you'd like them to see. A while back, one site owner changed images of celebrities to hardcore porn, which came as a surprise to those of us who followed the link. I think I still have that one bookmarked somewhere...

The problem is less the space taken up on the server, more that there's a limit as to how much data can be transmitted every month for many websites. If we hotlink to an image on someone else's site, we're using someone else's bandwidth without their permission -- it's sort of like running an illegal pipe into their irrigation ditch. And AW is a pretty big pipe.
AW has a ton of traffic -- upward of 3 million page loads a month. For a hotlink to an image on Joe Schmoe's blog, hosted on his own domain, that can mean it costs Joe real money in actual bandwidth overage charges -- and those are like cell phone minutes; overages add up really fast.
Photobucket, Flickr, other file-hosting sites, or your own website are totally cool to link to. Though, if you're linking to an image hosted on your own website, you might want to make sure you have sufficient bandwidth, if the hotlink ends up in a particularly high-traffic thread.
