Hello, everyone! I have recently joined you here on the site. If you are familiar with the journal. "Rattle," I have a question. They have both a print and online version. The print one also pays more for submissions. How does one submit specifically to their print journal? Does anyone know? Thanks.

Hi, fountain923, and welcome to Absolute Write! I hope you have a great time here. I’ve checked Rattle’s Submittable page, and those submission categories that are considered for online publication are marked as “online-only”. The rest, as far as I can see, are for the submissions that are considered for the print issues.

Hi, Autumn. Thanks so much for your prompt reply and kind welcome! I, too, have looked at their submissions page and have seen the "online only" label. What confused me, though, is what if a writer was only interested in the print journal and would rather try for another print journal than be published in Rattle's online journal (the positives of publication and $100 notwithstanding )? It seems as if you have a shot at the print version through their Submittable but will automatically be in the online version as a second place kind of option, if you're lucky enough to be accepted, i.e.

Thanks. Any further info on this would be appreciated.

Can't say for certain, but you always have the option to turn down an acceptance if you're unhappy with the circumstances. If they offer you online publication, there is nothing wrong with saying, "Thanks, but no thanks." You are never obligated to any publication until you sign the contract (unless, possibly, they say that in submitting you are agreeing to their decision, but I don't suspect that's common outside of contests.)

Rattle is one of the top contemporary poetry journals. I've read their journal for many years--probably more than a decade. Getting published in any of their venues will be a feather in your cap.
