Is there any rule as to not start in media res when writing the book? I'm sort of starting the book at the moment that's set right now. But the crux of the book is actually set after I move out from where I live at the moment.

In medias res is acceptable. One way to do it well is a frame story: prologue or first chapter in the current moment, and ditto with the ending, but the rest is all the main story told (usually) in order.

Thanks I appreciate it. I think the only aspect of writing a memoir that scared me, was having to remember everything.

Don't worry about remembering everything. As you write and edit and edit and edit, you'll find that you remember more and more. ;)

You can also guess at the details: what you had for breakfast (if there's a breakfast scene), what you were wearing, stuff like that.

In medias res means to start in the middle (like epics do).

Ab ovo is to start at the beginning (from the egg, so's to speak.
