• We’re running on a new server at a new host with a new forum software called XenForo. Some things are different. Some things may not work as expected. I am working on it as fast as I can. Please be patient. Please read this post.
  • I'm going to be working on the forums for a while. Things may be wonky. I may turn the forums off without notice. Consider this a bit of a public beta test as we figure out the new software and make adjustments. But you've been much missed, and we can't wait to see you again!

I need some Emoji help!

If you haven't read the FAQ: Cheat Sheet For Members Familiar With the vBulletin version of AW, you might want to.

XenForo doesn't do Rep comments/points. Instead it offers Reactions, akd Likes, like so social media [cough one large platform] does.

At the bottom right of an individual post is a gray “thumbs up” icon.
Hover your cursor over the thumbs up icon and you’ll see a row of emojis:

xenforo_like_options.jpg

Going left to right the emojis mean:

Like
Love
Laughing
Wow
Sad
Angry

I'd like to add one that's a “virtual hug." But I can't just find one and use it; the art has to be either something I can buy/license, or public domain. Something that's roughly like a platonic hug, something comforting.

I could, I think, use the standard Unicode hug. But do people Id it as a hug?

Loving the zippy new software!

I'll miss the old emojis, but we can still type them at least.

Funny, I never think of the handsy emoji as a hug, it looks more like jazz hands to me or something. The JoyPixels emoji is the only one that looks like a hug to me.

Thanks for keeping this place rolling!

On Slack etc, it seems most people use a simple heart emoji to signify being comforting. (Coz yeah, I agree with swachski that all the hug ones look like jazz hands!)

The face with hands thing? I always thought that was "jazz hands"! @[email protected]

What about: https://emojipedia.org/people-hugging/ ? It's part of unicode 13.0
This is the one I've been using on Discord. (Other DIscord, not AW)

Will this help?

It's my own creation, so feel free to use it for the AW forums.
The image is on my FB page, and it's set to "public", so there's no need to login or what-have-you.

That's adorable! It's great for a celebrating, happy hug, but I think AW Admin was looking for a version of the comforting hug?:Hug2:

I realised this 20 minutes after posting. I'll see if I have time to create another one soon.

Not where you last saw me.
Wait, people memorized the codes for emojis?? Why didn't I do that? Or at least make a handy list? *crying face*
The list is still here; just click the 3 dots ("More options") right after the "insert image" icon at the top of your post box. The little smiling face on the left leads to the entire list (as far as I can tell). Click on that smiling little sucker and see. :greenie

I've got a few more to move over from the old vBulletin sets. It's a slow process so I'm doing it in batches.

I never knew that was supposed to be a hug. I thought it was someone with their hands up in a "hooray!" gesture... like a Muppet might do, you know?

*thinks back*

...I may have sent some unintentionally inappropriate texts.
