Finally, the highlight that's been needed in HK for so long, has taken centre stage. And if it's only in passing, then it still has been seen!

TVB (HK's only TV broadcaster now, after ATV went bankrupt and got shut down) went with the horrendous "brown face" depiction of Filipina helpers. "Brown face" is a nasty, bigoted take on "black face", directly about brown-skin ethnicities, or non-Chinese ethnicities. Ugh.

The actress apologised for her role in the offensive drama where this hideousness was portrayed, but TVB has not. Shame on TVB!

Although it seems to be (thankfully) on it's way out, there is also a loooong history of yellow-face in American cinema--so it's easy to understand the author's frustration. It's refreshing to see a little recognition of this "facing" phenomenon exposed in other countries as well.

Ralph's side of the island.
In Fiji circa 1978 one man asked us repeatedly if Indians (as in Native Americans) had red skin. I was blown away by the question as evidenced by the fact I still remember it vividly.
