How did the discussion go? Hope it went well.

Oh, yes, I forgot to report. It went very well. It was the reading group's Christmas meeting, at a local pub. They had all read my first novel; about 15 women and one of them's husband, and the guy fron Ottakar's. At the end of it I told them about SOS and passed it around. The Ottakar's guy said that most likely it won't be stocked there but he'll find out if it can be ordered. At least one of the women made a note of the title and said she'll buy it online.
So I was happy with the outcome.

This is minor, but a local coffee store wants to see the book. I noticed their website had a lot of Katrina relief stuff so I contacted them about possibly stocking SOS.

Will let you know how it went. :)

(also emailed Popeyes Restaurant, who started in N.O., but haven't heard back.)

My buddy Neil emailed to tell me that in his store, SoS is selling at a rate he usually sees for books by well known authors, and that he's ordered more, w00t!

That's awesome Charlie! Chapters here hasn't brought the book in unfortunately (as of yet). The manager's dad just died so I didn't want to be too pushy. She did tell me, however, that the order to stock books needs to come from a senior manager in Ottawa (not too clear on the details here of the process, etc.). She did distribute my bookmarks and flyers however. And SoS can be ordered from Chapters' website of course.

Word of mouth works well too for sure. I've ordered 18 copies in total and most of them have been used as gifts or sold. I tell people to tell others to call Chapters and ask about SoS. The inquiries that are made - who knows? More inquiries, more interest, more publicity. I'm a one man (er, woman lol) show here and doing my best. All I can do, huh?

I did a few rough calculations--so we have to sell around 112 more books or so to meet the first goal, right?

Hi kids. I just updated the sales numbers. Not huge, but we're still selling copies. We're up to 1,028 now and resting comfortably at #23 on Lulu's all time top 100.

1,039 as of today. Slipped to #29 on Lulu's all-time list. I'll do another update at the end of October when we reach our publication date 1 year anniversary.

Hard to believe it's been nearly a year.

I'm glad it's still out there.

I've decided that if I ever get a book deal, I'm going to promote the heck out of this anthology...well, as much as I can fit in between the promotion of my own book. :)

As far as your wanting more info on the book, click on the pic in my link and it will take you to the website for the book. It's www.storiesofstrength.com.

With regard to Lulu--I was just a lowly contributor to the book, so I can't answer what working with them is like. However, my impression is that the experience was pretty positive, especially considering that Lulu donated their services to the project, as well.

I did a little more with LULU after Stories of Strength and they were wonderful to work with.
Not only did they donate proceeds but they really loved what we did.

And they love Jenna. That's good enough for me.

Hi! I quickly read through this thread but could not find the name of the book- What is it? Also what is it like to work with LULU?
Hi CW ... this thread is in the Stories of Strength forum, and as I'm sure you've discovered by now, that's the name of the book. And like yarmy says, LULU is great.
