Hi @GraceOlsen and welcome to AW! So sorry to hear about your loss. It's so hard when these things come all at once- my thoughts are with you. New here as well, but gradually getting used to it.

This is certainly a very friendly, informative supportive community you have come to.

Your blog looks really interesting and informative :) Looking forward to seeing you on the boards.

Hi @jadamson, I really appreciate your support. And yes, you're right, it's a friendly space and I plan make my way through and figure it out, the homies are super friendly. And on your end I get the vibes you're getting acquainted just fine.

And thanks a lot for your comments on my blog. I'm happy that you find it interesting 🙂.

Anyway, Jadamson, what are you up to? You writing a book or something?

:hi: Hello and :welcome: to Absolute Write, GraceOlsen! :)

With a surname like Olsen, I'm wondering if you have any Scandinavian roots?

I've completed my novel which I hope to be first in a series. It is a fantasy , having heavy queer elements and follows an unhappy young man, finding himself in another world. He has to contend with his sexuality, becoming a slave and having a destiny that he can't understand yet. I was a bit naive when I started writing it, not really appreciating the audience of my book, mainly writing for myself at that time. I've been given very good advice here and am in process of discussing how to edit my novel to make it the best it can be. At the moment, working out a new beginning in making character older and hoping to apply it to a more adult audience. If you want to know or discuss more, feel free to PM me as don't want to gate crash your thread too much :)

Hi Norsebard🙂 forgive me if I replied twice as I already sent a reply but for some reason, I'm not sure if you received my message('cause o can't see it on my end) so here it goes,

Thanks sooo much for your warm welcome, and yes! I have Norwegian ancestry.

Hi GraceOlsen, fellow newbie here.

I'm very sorry to hear about your twin losses. I can imagine it's a very difficult time for you.

I too am getting back into writing after a five year drought. I originally discovered AW many years ago when I first started writing but haven't been on in a (very) long time. I rediscovered it recently when I was looking for a community to help me stay motivated while I try to rebuild the writing habit.

Hope you find what you're looking for here. 😊

Hi @SariBelleW, thanks for for having me. That's really some fate there. It's not everyday you stumble on something twice. Lol maybe I'm exaggerating but I'm glad your way here eventually. Even as a newbie I feel the vibe here is the friendly and supportive kind that will help you get back into rebuilding your writing habits and stay motivated. And thank you for your kind words about my losses. I find writing to be a great form of therapy and a way to process my emotions so I'll be fine. Thanks for checking.

Anyway, have you've found any helpful tips or resources here on AW that has helped in getting back into writing?

And oh, have you started on any writing projects yet?

Hey everyone, It's Grace here,
Hi, Grace. I won't focus on your recent losses, although I sympathize with you. You're here with new friends. You have new understanding people to bounce your ideas off of, help in almost any genre and provide general support. Five years is not a long time in the grand scheme of things. I had a fifty year lapse in writing. I had to transcribe all my stone tablets. Also, I realised you don't have to actually pound the keys as hard as that old chisel of mine. Well, welcome and enjoy the community.

Hi Gramps,

Thank you for the warm welcome. It's great to hear that this community is so supportive and welcoming. I appreciate your encouragement to focus on the present and the new connections I can make here. And thank you for sharing your own experience with writing and adapting to new technology🙂. Wow, 50 years is no joke, and am happy you're on board now. It helps to know that others have gone through similar challenges and come out on the other side.

Thanks again Gramps, I'm looking forward to being a part of this community and learning from everyone here.

Certainly not the newest but it feels like it.
Plus I'm super nervous to so this.

Hey everyone, It's Grace here, and I joined 2 weeks ago, I know I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never, right? I've had a bit of a rough patch with my grandma and cat passing away, I know they're in a better place now, so I've been trying to wrap my head around that. I'm not going to dwell on that, I'm here now and I'm psyched to be a part of this community.

I'm a Jersey girl with some Texas roots. I'm not about to toot my own horn as a writer, but writing has always been a part of my life. When I was a kid and a teenager, I'd write short stories for fun and spent hours on forums typing away about everything under the sun. College kinda threw me off my writing game a bit, but it's been over six years now—I guess you can't really shake an old habit.

Probably the reason why I'm back at it, started a blog mainly writing non-fiction–long & short form articles–across self-improvement, financial literacy, and whatever meaningful other interesting topics I find interesting.

I stumbled upon AW while scrolling through a particular medium publication. For so long I've been itching for a community of writers to connect with (this place sure feels great already). So here I am! I'm looking forward to learning from and sharing ideas with all you amazing writers out there.

Thanks for having me, y'all!
hiii!

There's a thread called 'build a writing habit, write every day in March' (or something like that), which I have been using and found helpful. But AW is so vast mostly I've just been exploring and figuring it all out, and keeping an eye on the New Posts for interesting things that crop up.

I have started a new novel project (I think it's YA dystopia at this stage), which I'm doing alongside the Holly Lisle How to Write a Novel course.

Have you been working on a new project since you got back into writing?

Hello - and I've been meaning to ask, whereabouts in Jersey and Texas are you from?
Well, howdy, I'm originally from Austin but I grew up in Morristown. Speaking of homes, what part of the Big Apple are you from?

Hey there, That thread sounds really helpful, I might have to check it out myself. Glad to know that you're finding your way around pretty well.

It's awesome that you've started a new novel project YA dystopia sounds like a really interesting genre to explore.

As for me, my writing style has taken a turn over the years. Right now it's focused on the nonfiction genre category. It's been a challenge, but also really rewarding to explore a different style.

I've actually been working on a few different projects since I got back into writing. I've started a personal blog last year, that soon turned into a multi-niche blog across my interests (personal development, personal finance, culture and entertainment). It's been a lot of fun to explore different forms and niche.

Ooooh I'm familiar with Morristown - friend of mine grew up there and now lives in JC. I haven't been to Austin yet but it's on my list.

I'm from Queens, was there until two years ago before ending up in westchester with the possums and raccoons.
