This seemed the closest forum for posting this. I do have a Facebook account but I only signed up for it, years ago, when I was doing research on fan responses and fanfictions and saw that some people had info on sites like "Live Journal" and such. So, I also got a FB account. I don't use it for anything else (no friends, postings, messaging). I was thinking of joining some of the groups that have submission calls advertised.

My question is: if you belong to these groups for the info but don't have friends (although your friend list may just not be visible), etc. can that be a problem with any publishers down the line not wanting to take a chance on you. I'm not involved in self-publishing at the moment--just looking at traditional), but even so...and it's possible I might be at some point, or involved with hybrid, etc. So is it a potential problem in any way to join these FB groups not as an active FB person but just to see the calls?

You can join, see whatever you want to see, and then leave the group. No one has to know.:Shrug:
Thanks. When you say "leave the group," do you mean "unjoin" or just leave for the moment--(because they're ongoing calls)?

I was thinking of unjoining, but if the mods there allow it, you can try rejoining every time you think you might need to.

You don’t have to leave the facebook groups. The only way I could see it being an issue is if you’re contacting them directly through Facebook messenger. People will typically look up the public facing profile of the person messaging them. If someone has a public but very new or blank profile that can be a red flag that it’s coming from a bot or a scammer.

You can still get around that though. Just set everything on your profile to private. You can have your friends list set to private as well, so they don’t see that you don’t have any friends. Get a nice profile picture, don’t leave it blank. It doesn’t have to be your face. Mine is my dog.
