I am very close to publishing my first novel and my next step is to properly format it for upload. I've been referencing Smashword's formatting guide, but it is designed for those using MS Word. I use WriteWay Pro for my writing and one one of the Publish ready outputs in MS Word (.doc). Is the output generated by WriteWay Pro compatible to Smashword's suggested format? I don't have the money to buy MS Office.

OpenOffice and LibreOffice are both Word compatible and free. My advice is to use WriteWay Pro to output your work in .doc format, then open it with OpenOffice or LibreOffice, then tweak things if you need to. One way or other, you really need a general-purpose way to deal with .doc files if you are going to get anywhere working with anyone else.
