If there is an answer somewhere he I apologize, I was nit able to find it if it is there. But what might the best resources be to find an editor? I would like to hire one but am not sure what resources there are to find one

Again, apologies if this is the wrong place for this or if there is already an answer here

It will depend in part on what kind of an editor you are looking for -- a substantive/structural editor, a line editor, a copyeditor/proofreader? And it'll depend on what you want them to edit, since a lot of editors are specialists for a particular genre or market -- even the world's best young adult fantasy novel editor is probably not the right person to hire for a textbook on insect identification.

You may want to look at professional editors institutes -- this is the one for Aus/NZ, but I don't know what part of the world you're in.

It'd help if you could provide a bit more info, and maybe a budget range? Here's an example of a thread where another person asked and got some good advice/recommendations.

Check out American Copy Editors Association (ACES). They permit editors to hang a shingle on their site and solicit editing gigs.

Go to the bottom of this page and you will find a list of editors. You don't need to register to search the list. There's a filter that allows you to select for copy editing, indexing, proofreading, sensitivity reading, substantive editing, and writing. There's also a keyword filter.

The link for the list is here.

Bonne chance!

The first editor I worked with was a recommendation from a friend.

The editor I recently booked is one that I wanted to work with in RevPit. Maybe a little unconventional way of finding one, but I'm happy with it.
