Morning, friends.

Given my talents at self-promotion are far, far behind my abilities to actually produce ebooks (I'm not saying they're good ebooks, but they at least exist), I was wondering if anybody had any mailing lists or review sites they frequented and/or recommended?

Most of the more prominent names out there (like "Smart Bitches, Trashy Books," "SmexyBooks," and "The Smut Report") are romance-focused and, though they'll often cover m/m (my genre) and many seem okay with higher heat/spicier content, I suspect my reading of "spice" may very well differ from theirs 😂

For context, I just released a new story, and - unlike many previous ones - there's no clear romance thread in there. I would feel like I was misleading readers/reviewers if I tried to categorize it as that. Sales have been okay (by my small scales) courtesy of a short-but-gratitude-inspiringly-devoted mailing list of existing readers, but I know I can't keep selling to the same cohort and expect any realistic growth that way.

Alternatively, maybe there's no such resource these days (a lot of Google results now come up dead or long-abandoned) and people get their erotica recommendations through word-of-mouth in clandestine after-hours clubs?

I have no information to share, but I'll wait with you until the people that do come along. Doughnut?

You know how once in a while you'll have a sex dream? Twice in the last few months I've had a doughnut dream. I don't even like them all that much!

I'm not a big doughnut fan, though an occasional Bismarck filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate is acceptable. (Sounds kinda sexy, doesn't it?)

When Mr. Maryn and I were so young we didn't worry about what we ate, we used to go late at night to Mrs. Johnson's Doughnuts in Austin. They were doing the bulk of the baking overnight, so the goods were warm from the oven, any glaze only semi-solid.

Best damned doughnuts I ever had. Now I have to find out if they're still in business... They are!

I think most of those sites have died out, maybe due to Reddit?! It kind of replaced the word of mouth mailing lists and doesn’t cost you thing. Reading Reddit threads in honestly why I decided to pick my pen back up and begin again. There are starving readers out there. Give them your doughnuts! Lol

This is a really useful suggestion, thank you! I always found Reddit a little intimidating tbh, but I shall go for a clandestine explore and see where might be appropriate to get involved and post links...

Oh, do share. I was banned at an adult site for daring to protect my own damned copyright. (A story posted with my permission at a site that's been gone for fifteen freakin' years appeared there, stripped of my name, and the site owner ignored my perfectly polite request that he remove it via the Contact Us list, then ignored my DMCA takedown notice a month later, so I complained on a public board. Bam!). The one person I know there suggested I move on to Reddit. But it's so big and intimidating!

So in Reddit, I follow r/eroticaauthors - mainly this is shameless self promotion which, as a writer, you shouldn’t be ashamed to share your work. No too many rules but there is a list of the etiquette: https://www.reddit.com/r/eroticauthors/s/Y26EvzndOM

Also there are these I follow just so I know what readers are looking for, name that book assistance etc.

This one is romance but I find there is quite a bit of crossover in romance and erotica these days. https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/s/EKfsf3vuai

But if you are looking for self promotion- try the first link I posted.

But if you are looking for a community of erotica writers, perhaps try https://storiesonline.net/

Sorry if my linking needs help, I’m on my mobile.

I know this a few months old, but since no one has posted anything, maybe this: https://excitespice.com/author-promotion/
Or this: https://shamelessbookdeals.com/

Haven't tried them myself, so can't really give you a proper review of their services.

You could also try Book Funnel promos. There's one coming up that is LGBTQ+ Erotica. (I think you said you did MM?) But you'd have to pay for a Book Funnel account, if you don't already have one to deliver reader magnets, etc.
