A while ago, I mused on the idea of having a Discord server for writers like me. Unfortunately, none could be found among the public servers. That all changed when I was shopping around for new Writing Forums to join, and this one right here had a tie-in Discord server!

So... are there other writing-related Discord servers? I can't seem to find any. Also, how does conversing on Discord differ for you from posting on a forum? I personally reserve forum posts for in-depth discussions and conversations, but since Discord is relatively quick for responses, I just post quick quotes.

There aren't any that I know of specifically off the top of my head. I hope more crop up soon though!
As far as forums go, I am pretty new to them. I grew up in MMO chats and ventrilo servers and then moved into discord lol.

I will say that this is nice for people (like me) who are awkward when they first meet new people. Kinda lets me slow down and get to know everyone at my own pace, yknow? Really hard to dive into a new discord for me, unless its with people I already know, but this is nice =) I can just sort of participate where and when I want to and stay comfy under my blankets hiding from the world when I don't.

Try Spectrum for one. That's based in London. The Ventura County Writer's Salon is another. It's open to anyone and they are gearing up for another novel-writing-partner-matchup stint rn. WriteHive has a discord.

I'm certain there are many, many. Someone on facebook pointed me toward a HistFic discord. It seems like there are a few floating about, for various needs and genres and styles.

There are a some that are public/discoverable. Search for "writing." "The Writing Hub" is a good size and the chat is very busy.

I own a Discord server called Shining Ideal that's for creative networking, so you could talk with writers, artists, musicians, filmmakers, etc. and have a great time. The server is rather small but very active, so if you feel like joining click the link in my signature!

Absolute Write has a discord server, if you are interested in joining on that is tangentially related to the forums. This link: https://discord.gg/ehbHGWC will get you to the discord server, where we talk about writing and other semi-related things.

I'm on one with my publisher, but I think it's exclusive for those who are published by then. I know I've seen quite a few servers for writers in general, and I'd expect there are more specific to genres.

It's been handy to get specific answers to questions and such, but most of the posts are just one- or two-word responses to earlier posts. And I still get an email telling me about them.
