How has it possibly been another year again?! Join us as we count down the days to 2020!
This is your very own advent calendar, except instead of being full of chocolate you get tasty, tasty oh-so-sweet writing prompts every day. What could be better?!
Here's how it works:
This thread will be updated every day* of December with a new prompt. Some will be serious, some will be silly, but all will be sensationally fabulous**.
Here's what you do:
If you wish to participate, start a new thread with your own name, e.g., if your name is jschmoe, call your thread jschmoe's countdown thread. When you see a new day's prompt (bust down that imagination door!) you should write and post a piece inspired by the prompt in your own thread with the subject Dec. 1st, Dec. 2nd, etc. as matches the calendar countdown day. There is no specific time limit, unlike the regular Flash Fiction Challenge.
If you miss a day -- pesky holidays, peskier relatives -- it's okay to catch up on another day, but don't lag too far behind because the prompts will build up fast! Microfiction and poetry are entirely acceptable, as are novellas and sweeping odes to the awesomeness of the FFC mods.
Participants and non-participants alike should feel free to read and comment on each other's pieces, but unless a participant has explicitly said otherwise, assume these pieces are NOT here for critique. If your piece includes adult and/or triggery content, please put a warning in the subject line.
Here's a list of individual threads:
(so if we get a bunch of people they don't drop off the front page)
Here are the collected prompts so far:
(Prompts will be added both as a separate post below and here)
week one
31) Sun, Dec. 1st: waiting for the snow
30) Mon, Dec. 2nd: the howling wind
29) Tue, Dec. 3rd: the first snow
28) Wed, Dec. 4th: one lost boot
27) Thu, Dec. 5th: when your socks are warm
26) Fri, Dec. 6th: ice crystals creeping across the windows
25) Sat, Dec. 7th: my evil reindeer army
week two:
24) Sun, Dec. 8th: clear blue sky
23) Mon, Dec. 9th: holiday songs gone horribly wrong
22) Tue, Dec. 10th: what was in the punch
21) Wed, Dec. 11th: cookie crumbs
20) Thu, Dec. 12th: a toast
19) Fri, Dec. 13th: what luck
18) Sat, Dec. 14th: feast
week three:
17) Sun, Dec. 15th: missing scissors
16) Mon, Dec. 16th: the company of old friends
15) Tue, Dec. 17th: such a clatter
14) Wed, Dec. 18th: elf
13) Thu, Dec. 19th: down in the toe of the stocking
12) Fri, Dec. 20th: chicken soup
11) Sat, Dec. 21st: wrap it up
Good luck, and good writing!

* except when it isn't; I have a day job and a novel deadline so sometimes I'll be late with a prompt. Apologies given in advance. Also I apologize for being US-centric in my definition of "day", but that's where I am, and those are the days I have.
** fabulousness in the eye of the prompt-giver, natch.
** dang you people still read too far
