Sorry. I'm sure I should have been able to find this but if a thread is lined out does I'm assuming that's how you notify critters that it's closed for comment?

If a post is lined out, that post is closed for comment. In SYW, there is usually a newer version later in the thread that's open for comment; the thread title or a notification at the top of the first post in the thread should reflect that (though sometimes people forget to update their thread title to say New Version At Post 39 or whatevs).

If a thread title in SYW says Closed for comment, then the entire thread is closed for comment (temporarily or permanently; that's up to the OP).

If a thread outside SYW is locked, the entire thread is (obvs) closed for comment.

If an entire thread is lined out -- gosh, I can't say I've ever seen that.

Thanks. Was looking for queries to critique and most of them were lined out so I assumed. But like my dad used to say, assume and you make an ass out of you and me...

As Unimportant said, sometimes in query critique threads, the poster lines out the first version of the query when they post a revision, so that people don’t put effort into critiquing an outdated version. Often they will revise the title of the first post to say how far down in the thread the latest version of the query is (“new version at #19” for instance).

At the moment, in Query Letter Hell, there are quite a number of active query threads (latest version of the query posted in the last week or so), so if you just head on over there and take a look at the first page of threads, you will find queries to critique.

Ah. No worries, it can be confusing -- AW is a big and convoluted place!

As @Lakey said, if you click on the QLH link itself, the threads just below the Sticky threads are the most recent, so those are the ones you'd want to be active on. The date directly below the thread title (on the left) tells you when the thread was first started; the column on the right tells you who most recently posted to that thread and the date of their post. The thread title or the first post (or both) should tell you where the most current version can be found and critted.

You can see that some currently active queries have taken longer than others (heh, ain't that so, @Brigid Barry?).

Welcome to Hell, bwa ha ha ha ha....
