Alice Munro, Nobel Laureate and Master of the Short Story, Dies at 92 (gift link)

“With Alice it’s like a shorthand,” Mr. Ford said. “You’ll just mention her, and everybody just kind of generally nods that she’s just sort of as good as it gets.”

And from The Guardian, here's Margaret Atwood reading an Alice Munro story.

She changed my mind about the short story. I’d never been a fan till I read hers. It’s a form I hope to get back to.

She was really an absolute master of the form, and such a deft writer. She could pull you through time effortlessly, inhabit a deep POV, render powerful metaphors with tremendous subtlety. Every superlative you hear about Alice Munro is absolutely earned.

Thanks for the Guardian link, @ElaineB. The New Yorker Fiction Podcast also has several stories of hers, read (and discussed) by Margaret Atwood, Clare Sestanovich, and Lauren Groff.
