Absolute Write Offline Wednesday March 30, 2022

On Wednesday March 30 we will be upgrading the Absolute Write server.

Some of this is routine, some of this is related to further discouraging the continuing intermittent attempts to knock the server offline via DDOS.

Please don't try to use Absolute Write until you get the all-clear from me.

If you keep an AW window or tab open, please close it.

Spend a little extra time writing. Start a journal.

Check out the Absolute Write Discord server. You will need to create a Discord ID first.

I just had the brilliant idea to just...move the AW bookmark so that I won't default to going to it without a "Wait a second" moment.

I didn't take it off my bookmarks, though, I just moved it out of the alphabetical order I keep mine in on my toolbar, so when my muscle memory tries to default to the left side of my screen, it won't be there, but it's still in my list so I can move it back when it's done.

That's what I've actually done each time, although I didn't explain it as such.

I have had to resort to temp banning members who stayed logged on and actively trying to use the site. It does make it harder and slower. Plus it annoys me.

I completely removed the icon off my page with frequently visited sites. The amount of time it takes me to think "huh? where's it gone?" gives my brain the processing time to remember why I removed it, avoiding the possibility of only remembering not to go there after automatically clicking the link.
