You must be a keen observer to be able to spot things like that...
Oh gosh that invokes a lot of memories of a favourite bird. Thanks so much!

I miss cardinals, and blue jays, and hummingbirds, and fireflies.
I loved having them in my yard. I would put seed and fresh water out for them in the late afternoon. They would come by at the same time every day. I was the only one who used to put water out so they always came to my yard and my neighbors would put seed out.

I saw a bird in my backyard who seemingly was trapped on a branch. I thought the creature was injured and couldn't fly - so, I called our local Animal Protection Society. They were about to come rescue the bird but when I returned to the backyard, he/she was gone. The reason I mention it now is that I couldn't even describe the bird properly when I talked to the Society!
(Sigh)

Cardinals, robins, sparrows and bluejays were the only birds I knew on sight. I used books and then later Google to search birds in my area. When I got a digital camera I would take a picture then google it. it took a while for me to learn them.

I've had Coopers Hawks use my backyard as its usual hunting ground. I had mixed feeling about that. I loved seeing it but felt horrible about the sparrows it was going after. Once a juvenile eagle caught a pigeon and perched with its meal on the house next door.

There is a downside of studying/observing Nature, for sure. Not all of it is cute and rosy...

Week ending 10/9 was 15,694 words. Still pretty down but... 🤷‍♂️

That was 100% on the WIP. I still haven't finished proofing, either, so that's still on my to-do list.

Otherwise things around here have really seemed to have gone to the birds lately

One short story nearly completed.

In other news, I am going to rigorously follow my own posts for a week, and donate a dollar to AW for every exclamation point I use. Sheesh, I really need to stop flinging them on the page like minced coriander on a curry.

For the week ending 10/16, I wrote 16,141 words (I *really* hoped to get another 4k words in today to bump me over 20k for the week, but that wasn't happening), submitted 1 short story, and finished proofing those first 50 pages.

I'm going to try to proof another 100 pages this coming week, hopefully I'll hit 20k words again, and get some more queries out. And I need to finish outlining book 9 so it's ready to go whenever I finish the first draft for book 8.

Edited and subbed a two short story stories -- one an original, the other as a reprint. First submission in over a decade!! I expect two rejections, but I don't care.

Thanks, regdog, for setting up this very encouraging thread. It gave me the impetus to try.
