Chair
Alone, she would sit rocking in her chair
Out of the window, she'd often stare
Wondering where her family went.
Throughout her days, she would sit and talk
On the phone with me, and she would rock
And her words replenished my soul.
When I'd find her there and to her, draw near
She'd smile at me and say, hello dear
And her smile would erase all my tears.
Her embrace and her strength would comfort me
And I would give anything for her face, to see
But she's gone and my soul weeps.
I think of her often and tears again rise
She was tender and loving, her words always wise
And I thank God for knowing her love.
And when I am scared and don't know what to do
I think of her love and the blessing I knew
In my grandmother.
