She has lived for far too long -
her eyes have grown accustomed to life's dim light -
her senses have stretched with waking and have found their prison -
her thoughts, the first to fly, have come to roost and share their tales.

There is something
beyond this

She frees her last sigh,
learns to leap,
and falls into the sky.

Next word: Nothing

05-18-2005, 04:59 AM
All she can sense is the absence around her-
no feelings no thoughts no words cloud her mind.
How long she was there not even she can tell you.
There is nothing to tell.
She was falling, but from nowhere, so she could have been standing.
The black void captivated her,
kept her in its thrall.
Then an echo.

How can an echo come, she thought,
out of nothing?

next word: possibilities

05-18-2005, 05:14 AM
cravings turned to longing,
yearnings turned to thrusts,
life-altering moments
brought to the cusp of reality
by the hope of a dream
the dream of hope.
those itchings
that get in the way
of getting things done.

Next word: CRAVE

black winged fighter
05-18-2005, 11:57 PM
A yearning ache for some sweet something -
the first or last
fruit of the season,
kiss of the day,
touch of the night...

And the emptiness can never be filled...
Oh no -
Oh yes -
It can never be filled.

New word: soft

Albedo of Zero
05-19-2005, 12:23 AM

Soft it rises, gray in blue,
life-sucking, soothing
in rhythms too cool
to rise higher than face level,
too innocently evil
to stay at my feet.

next word: rhythm

05-19-2005, 01:24 AM
Drum beat rhythm of the earth
Pulse rocking
Through my soul.

Wind singing sweetly to sweated brow
Sun burning hot
Red swollen face.

Booming heart throbs, hammer blows
Repeating again
Pain of defeat.

Leaning to put my hands on knees
I breathe.
Another race lost.

word: hammer

05-19-2005, 01:25 AM
opps! next poet picks favorite word... sorry.

05-19-2005, 01:31 AM
Paint, looks like we posted at the same time. Why don't we let the next person choose: HAMMER or SCHOOL

05-19-2005, 10:20 PM
When daddy used the hammer
Us kids all ran and hid.

Maybe it was the cursing
Could have been the beer.

Woe to the little ones
They never seemed to know.

If he hit his finger
Who would be the first to go.

next word: Rebel Cause
I know...just need to shake things up a bit.

05-20-2005, 04:21 AM
He's a rebel cause he never ever does what he should

oops, sorry, let me start again

The rebel lives inside my soul
He screams at those who lie
And then he runs away to hide
and I'm left high and dry

For those who need a clump of clay
He's very hard to mold
And so they find another one
Whose service can be sold

I've lost at many games in life
Because he spoke my cause
But when I turned to take the bow
I never heard applause

05-20-2005, 04:30 AM
Manipulate my heart you did
Corrupt my soul you must
Kill my conscience you will
The Love of my life you are

Next word: Betrayal

Albedo of Zero
05-20-2005, 04:53 AM
I close my eyes

there's a secret you can't see
it sears an image
of you and I
in one another's arms

a picture of family
of growth
of memories colored

you stand there
damn you
and remind me

until I open my eyes
and they tell

next word: secret

05-20-2005, 05:31 AM
Lighter than air
yet heavier than stone
is the secret I bear
in the dark, all alone.

Next word: Regret

05-20-2005, 05:40 AM
i have kept
the same secret
since I was
in seventh grade.

i have lived
-not a lie-
but a subtle avoidance
of the truth
(it's not the same thing).

such a secret
ingrained so deeply
can wear on a soul
can drive them right over
the edge.

i have been lucky.

next word: sleep. No wait, I totally lied. I was too slow. Use brokenfinger's word.

05-20-2005, 06:32 AM

telling me
to release all
in forgiveness

to be whole

Next word: happiness

05-20-2005, 09:33 AM

clouds and trees and little children
water balloons
paper stars
strawberry ice cream and lemon cakes
promises of April and songs of May

And then there is

Next word: kindness

05-20-2005, 08:22 PM
Define Kindness
My mentor asked of me.

Is it abolishing pain?

Laying your hand
On a grieving soul
Knowing loss for him.

Doing all you can
When you have nothing
Left to give or gain.

Kindness is transforming
From ego to angel.

next word: angel

05-20-2005, 08:32 PM
When the world crumbles under you
An angel will give you wings
When the thunders of life make you flinch
An angel will make you sing
When the trees of promises lie barren
An angel will give you rain
When the sky of dreams turns to darkness
An angel will wash your pain

next word: apple

05-21-2005, 02:12 AM
The apple he gave her
Stayed on her desk
She never brought it home

The other boys laughed
They called him names
And still it sat alone

He wondered if he
Should take it back
Or throw it in the trash

For as the days
Turned into weeks
He broke out in a rash

And so one day
He left his lunch
And tiptoed in the room

He took the apple
Home with him
And lay it in a tomb

In its place
He'd left a box
That held a little turd

She peeked inside
And true to form
She never said a word

Next word: Thoughtless

Albedo of Zero
05-21-2005, 02:38 AM
Worm, half digested chucked up onto a pointed tongue,
vibrato, hunger, tasteless?

Scruffed fur in mouth, protected, scolded,
curfewed to boundaries, painless?

Pinched fleas, bitten, killed to never again bother the skin
where the hair was separated, groomed, careless?

Locked doors, tv blaring, alone, hungry, unclean,
past midnight, thoughtless.

next word: mother

05-21-2005, 03:27 AM
My mother is my father
who dresses in drag
wears silk stockings
smokes on a fag

her boobies hang down
in rolls and bumps
her bum is hairy
and all full of lumps

but I love my mom
oops mean my dad
he's my best darned pop
and I'm his best lad

Next word: cigarette

Albedo of Zero
05-21-2005, 03:32 AM

05-21-2005, 03:32 AM

then rolled into one
long thin pleasurable

next word: twisted

05-21-2005, 07:31 AM

Corkscrew pasta,
Braids next to braids,
My heart when its swept
Away and is saved.

Especially when you'd thought
You'd found your one and only.

05-21-2005, 10:25 PM
Unfaithful man
Cool and calm
Bringing pretty flowers
Too many presents.
I know
but won't say
won't cross that denial line.

Unfaithful woman
Reaching up
with slender limb
taking hot young lover
revenge sweet

next word: sublime

05-21-2005, 11:02 PM
My stomach is growling
my belly plain aches
I need me some fries
with a burger or steak

But wait, there's a sandwich shop
I spot from the road
I swerve right on in there
run over a toad!!

I jump out of my car
race through the front door
my appetite is ragin'
droolin' right on the floor!

Salami and meatballs
best sandwich of all time
"And your drink with that, sir?"
Why I'll have my sub with a lime!!

Next word: pizza

05-22-2005, 02:45 AM
I planned my day
around my diet.
Don't tell me that
you don't buy it!
Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: hardly ate it
Snack: one apple
I cut it up and plate it.
Then Deb knocked me out
with a single word.
The nicest word
I ever heard,
gonna get
waiting for
Ding dong
it won't be long
ding dong
I'm not that strong
ding dong

Next Word: Sabotage

05-22-2005, 02:46 AM
"Pizza, again?" he said to me
"That's twice this week, or maybe three."

"But I'd eat pizza every day."
"That's true, my love, or just about -
but why eat in
when there's carry-out?"

Next word: feast

05-22-2005, 03:10 AM
Unique, what a riot ... carry out - delivery LOLLLL

Should we give them a choice of word:

05-22-2005, 03:23 AM
Well, Cassie...

our pizza feast sabotaged our diets...so let's give 'em a choice.

05-22-2005, 04:17 AM
The leaves of grass
they wave in my memory
stop me on windless days
when the feast of smells
from the sweltering forest
still manage to reach me.

The book, in my mind's eye
not far from perfect,
acts to sabotage
my own memory of beauty
As I attempt to scratch
my words down in proper meter
and taste the leaves of reason
as they drip from my troubled

NEXT WORD: challenge

05-23-2005, 04:44 AM
I crack my knuckles,
movie-maestro style,
lean back in my chair
and think for a while.

Then to the challenge -
I feel the poems rise
But what comes out
Is a constant surprise.

Next word: bell

05-23-2005, 04:56 AM
You can ring my bell
Or bang the gong
Bells of St Mary's
Are also in a song.

Frere Jacques'
Morning bells are ringing.
Be thankful, my friends,
That I'm writing, not singing.

Next word: desperate

05-23-2005, 05:05 AM
It's building up again; why won't it leave me alone?
I've promised, I vowed I'd give it up!
Why am I not strong enough to resist?
I can't, I won't give in again!
All I have left is my dignity
Will it take that too?
I must be strong
I can't...
I'm desperate...
The need is too strong
Nobody will know...
Just one...
Hiding in a corner
Nobody can see me
Writing one more Feghoot.

Next word- paralysis

Albedo of Zero
05-23-2005, 06:10 AM
In a body, in a wheelchair,
spinning faster than a limp mouth
can shape -thoughts
of genius, of faith, of love

of life, the eyes move
and blink tears of defeat.

Next word: mouth

05-23-2005, 02:51 PM
represtation of the body
represtation of the mind
it is the so called spokesman of the soul
we eat from it
curse from it
love from it
hate from it
without it we will surely die....

next topic: being homeless

05-23-2005, 11:02 PM
The streets
(walked by my sister
scavenged by my mother
hunted by my father)
once belonged to me.
I miss them,
though they have claimed
the ones whom I loved
and would, one day,
have taken me.
They called me
never seeing the home
I had built with my own hands.
They called me
never seeing
the family I had
in the beggers and the whores,
the thieves and the killers.
And I sit silently
with my adoptive family,
feeling more homeless
and more of an orphan
than I ever felt
on the streets.

Next word: exhaustion

05-24-2005, 04:14 AM

Next word: adventure

Brainerd T.
05-24-2005, 06:50 AM

Thirty years later, I'm still ecstatic about my wife.

Brainerd T.
05-24-2005, 06:56 AM

Peel away

05-24-2005, 09:56 PM
Dew drops hung from the sweet round orb
Morning sun gleaming through the sparkling water.
I approached carefully for it swung tenaciously
On it's fragile nearly severed wooden host.

A soft and fuzzy peach, freshly ripe.
Suddenly ravenous, I reached, stretching
Above my head for the prize.
At last a juicy bite was mine
Nectar running down my chin.

next word: bite

05-24-2005, 10:02 PM

Haha. not awesome but it works.

Next word...knowledge

05-24-2005, 10:43 PM
knowlegde is a blessing to some

your touch to me
turned toxic

Next Word: venom

The walk was not hard,
splashing through puddles
with the backsplash image

in my footfalls.
The journey was refreshing,
restaurants, amusement parks,
idle trees wrapped in iron-work fortresses.
But the arrival,
breath released at the sight
of your devilish smile,
that was the reward
at the end of the mile.
And getting there,
I whispered to the moon,
thanking it for its

Denied those things which make life well:
Simplicity of things.

Peonies struggle to stand
amidst the tufted weeds unpulled,
Their bursting plumage sags
and shivers in the humid haze.
I pause
and breathe the candied air,
watch the ants traverse an unbloomed peony
and sigh.
Rain can wait, I reason.
This heat has made me aware

alive and fighting,
gasping for life

Rain can wait until I sleep,

First kiss, first taste of love, for as soon as I’ve had my fill.

For who can know what night still holds
And what day has yet to tell?

Until a slice severed the lines -
An opening disconnecting
The roundness of things -
A void destroying

And like a jellied bubble,
Swelling in spots
Before it bursts,
I come apart,
Misting the air
With a spray so fine,
It can't be seen -
Only touched.

To join external to internal.

Lest we burst the bubble of existence

With perspectives great and small:

View a world,

Contained with limitations,

Or view eternal space

From within a tiny ball.

Is an atom yet a universe?

Or our world but dust

In some great hall?

Either way, we live

Within a circle,

Knowing not the place we’re in,

If one at all.

no walk in the park
When Mr. Developer
came with his check
We all took the money
We said, 'what the heck'
Working so hard
for pennies a pound
A business decision
a good one and sound
Our kids are all gone
they all moved away
Off to the city
to work and to play
Yes cotton was King

But time shuffles on
And it's our turn to play.

Forty years my people fought,

For what - was never clear,

But in silent service they sent their sons

To stand and face the foe.

And now there are no more to send,

Our youth is used and gone

And all that now do here remain

Are broken men and boys.

It is in their midst I write this script

For your conquering lord to bear:

‘In answer to your demand for

Tribute, sir, I have nothing left to give,

Unless you will take the ancient crones

Who, for their sons, now dig.

As for my land, yes it is yours,

Such as which remains,

And as to that may burnt wood and scrub

Add power to your throne.

For they are all our worldly goods

And you may take them at your leisure,

But our treasure lacks the pretty jewels

And specie that you seek,

For that was spent a score years back,

To keep you from our land.

Still we offer this inheritance

From all that have survived,

The loathsome hate that you have earned

With unabated pride.’

You waved, and then
You were gone.

You took it with you on the train.

I was merely a woman
Freezing on a platform.

And I decided then.

Out of sorts, disheveled.
You had to rest and so, at the personal request

In fact you had almost been forgotten.
The old Master had barely even mentioned you
In passing.
But yes, there you were, in one of his notes.

After the moments after we kissed
Our minds replayed that moment of bliss
And after this we parted ways
Wondering, "Am I gay?"

We returned to our homes alone
Unashamed and unforgiven
Where the kids and the dog were complacent
And our hearts raced with the thought of seeing one another's face again

Embarking on one more kiss
And the moments after this
Keeping a list in our hearts of available times and places
We'll meet and invade each other's spaces
Until that hopeless time we gain the strength to confess
That after our moment after our kiss we'd progress to go public

All aboard!

Tracks waver in midsummer haze,

A shimmering mirage beckoning

With two distorted lines that

Alternately focus and fade,

Focus and fade, focus and fade.

The click-clack of the locomotive

Long gone and now the only

Clicks or clacks are the stones

Fracturing between the sleepers

In the early August heat -

And the crickets and cicadas

Firing up their engines.

The tall grasses stand in at the points,

Forlorn would-be passengers

Eternally waiting to ride the rails.

A speckled fawn strays from the embankment,

Momentarily risking the iron road

For a few mouthfuls of tumble weed.

Nervously he looks up,

Perhaps expecting the rumble

Of some bygone mechanical titan.

The buckled metal is no longer smooth,

Having supported no fire-eating, smoke-bellowing

Monster for many a year,

And yet as the image silently shimmers:

Focus and fade, focus and fade,

Focus and fade –

It’s as though time is trying to

Offer one last journey through a window,

Nay - over a barely visible bridge,

Along the meandering metal

To yesteryear.

Christian Soldier

(with serious apologies to John Bunyan)

Stepping forth that Christian man

As light as laughter started he,

But whence he stepped ‘twas

Thence he found his faith was tried

In heavy ground whereon direction

He received, from those he met along the way.

Obstruct would one, while his friend would not,

But passing both he trudged the path

And found in his way a surly Slough -

A very bath of sad despondency.

But with guidance from the worldly wise

And passing by an ancient hill

He fell in with another soul,

One truly evangelical.

With burden’s lost and difficult mounds

Lions crossed and given arms,

He crossed the Valley and in its shadow

Dealt with giants of faith and fear.

Through hope and doubt our friend

Considered, with kindred souls

Great obstacles weathered.

He saw his friend a martyr made

Regained his hope and took his ease.

He crossed a vivid river , faced

A huge despair – a loss and then

A dank and dingy dungeon.

And then, by luck, a promised key

Released him gone and on his way,

Through highland hills delectable

And shepherds for to guide him there.

He missed his way and near found hell

But remained intact until he dallied

With fresh ignorance. For this, he was

Right well condemned by such a one

As shone. Wrongly paired with ignorance

Our friend yet crossed enchanted ground

And finally slid a forward path despite

A temporary backward slip.

And moving on through Beulah’s land

At last the river! The final stage

And through the portals Peter guards -

The journey’s end - the city fair

Wither our pilgrim has at last

Denies vanity.

Thoughts flow in mixed mud-sky colors
dry like sand
duned to be seen by the comic sans font flags
a rhythm, a rhyme, a stream

not that I suppose it matters, but Black Winged Fighter wrote a really good short piece on dunes already - # 440. I'm sure there are many poems in 'dunes' but its up to you all and Albedo of Zero in particular

So next word 'dunes' ?

One poem to flow
into another
is just,
in the laying down of words
in a row,
expectant bubbles of thought
burst onto pages
bleeding into the thoughts
of other poets,
forcing them to steal
those same words
and rearrange them
into symmetrical memories
of their own existences.
into other words,
so it is acceptable
to use dunes
more than once...

Green pickup
Vintage 1955,
Sits patiently
In the yard
By the porch.
Waiting for
magic spark
Let it free
Over the bridge
Into town.

Alas and woe!
No tires
only cement blocks
Green pickup
Stays home.

Great work Paint!

I want to talk of thingummy
and that of whats-its-name
and where the start of you-know-what
begins at....oh-I've-forgot-again.

It's all to do with who-jam-a-flip,
yes, you-know-what-I-mean?
the priceless world of tut-it's-gone,
the wotsits heard and seen.

If I could only find the word -
my faculties unlock,
but sadly though I try and try -
I've still got writer's block.

Misty Circles,
though mythic emblems
of the throbbing '80s
sung to us
in whispers
by a beautiful drag queen
now long since forgotten,
call to me in my sleep.
Misty Circles,
I still dance
within their irrelevant arcs,
lethargic diameters,
still act as though
I could sing
on stage
with said drag queen
and win the hearts
of black leather-clad
I still wake up
in a sweat
these misty circles.

The world whirls
The hole hums

Sort by smell

Defend the Queen
Build great body-bridges
With sharp mandibles
And strong clawed feet

Slaves and soldiers

Drones and winged princes

Home, home, back to the hive

In the upper chamber of the old north tower,

The frightened boy suddenly awakens.

Imprisoned there against his will

For reasons vaguely known,

His brother gone, his sister too,

His parents dead and now,

Before him in the room,

His cousin, who never was his friend,

Angry, hostile, threatening.

Suddenly his cousin’s men move

And seize his hands.

The boys exclaims, the men persist,

The cousin draws his sword.

They hold him still, his eyes afraid

And in the same moment as

He understands his cousin’s aims,

The sword strikes, and

The family title passes on.

Seven hundred years have passed.

In the upper chamber of the old north tower,

On certain evenings, a frightened boy,

Lonely and confused,

Sadly shimmers.
