Last fall I self published a book and looked up dog related quotes to go with my photos. I found after several google searches they were all the same 20 some quotes, beaten to death on dog blogs, sad dog chain emails, and books.

We need new ones for our Alaska Dog News. While, of course I can not pay you, this is a labor of love, we will gladly quote you and post your web site in the newsletter. I wrote one for an old dog in the book. I’d run out of quotes, nothing really fit this 14 year old pit bull and his life long owner.
To sit in the grace of the old dog, petting that familiar head, hearing his familiar breath, and with a nudge he acknowledges my touch. Our memories meld in quiet contemplation. ~ Unknown” I am “Unknown”. The book had enough of me in it.

So, something like that. What do you have in you? It can be humorous, thoughtful, even Oscar Wildish, but no depressing phrases. We aren’t preaching in this newsletter. It needs to be short. Those less than 100 words will work.

Here is the newsletter www.alaskadognews.com . You can link to the PDF and see a slide show to give you inspiration. You can click on the Forever Home book to see some photos to inspire as well. Or just think of your own pet.
Thanks

We sang together my Yellow Lab and I. While I prefer to think he enjoyed it, he may have howled along simply to drown out my lack of tune.

North, or nearly so
Dogs have a way of understanding that makes them the closest thing to a perfect best friend that you can get without cloning your own. (Off the top of my head, you are welcome to use it, gratis; but would like to hear about it if you do)

I'm compiling a list and I'll send you an email before I publish and use the quotes. I'll see if you want to add your name or a url before hand. I think I can manage that as long as I catalog the links.

Thank you!

It's impossible to remain discontented while walking a dog.

Also our former poet laureate, Billy Collins, has a few wonderful poems about dogs, including this one that I love:
Dharma

The way the dog trots out the front door
every morning
without a hat or an umbrella,
without any money
or the keys to her doghouse
never fails to fill the saucer of my heart
with milky admiration.

Who provides a finer example
of a life without encumbrance—
Thoreau in his curtainless hut
with a single plate, a single spoon?
Gandhi with his staff and his holy diapers?

Off she goes into the material world
with nothing but her brown coat
and her modest blue collar,
following only her wet nose,
the twin portals of her steady breathing,
followed only by the plume of her tail.

If only she did not shove the cat aside
every morning
and eat all his food
what a model of self-containment she
would be,
what a paragon of earthly detachment.
If only she were not so eager
for a rub behind the ears,
so acrobatic in her welcomes,
if only I were not her god.

The person who can resist a puppy's eyes is a person who can ignore true love.

There is nothing so contended as a snoring dog.

If a good dog bites you, you probably deserved it.

These are a few random thoughts that were written by my dog, Alfie. If they're stupid, blame him:

Gnawgito ergo sum ( I gnaw therefore I am)

It's ok to bite the hand that feeds you as long as you know where the food is hidden.

When I gotta' go bad, there's nothing more inconvenient than a fire hydrant being used to put out a fire.

Lucy's pushing ten years from the other side now. Arthritis is making walking a bit harder and those cataracts prevent her from seeing the cats lying under the bouganvillas. Not to worry though, her nose is as sharp as ever when sniffing out salami or chicken and a good tummy rub is appreciated all the more.

Way out there
Let a dog adopt you, it's good for your self esteem.
