This maybe should be in the markets forums, but has anyone here dealt with Cemetery Dance Magazine? If so, how was the experience?

I sent a story to them several years ago; I got back an uninformative rejection slip in a reasonably short time.

The bad physical condition of the rejection slip left a bad taste in my mouth, and I was reluctant to deal with them -- despite their good reputation -- for some time, but I recently decided to try them again. Still waiting on that, though it's only been a couple of weeks.

Not very informative, I suppose -- but that's my 2¢.

Ditto about the long wait and a crumpled rejection slip. However, I know many authors who've gotten a good fast turn-around from them, so you never know. Maybe they just hated my story and passed it around laughing at it.

Somewhat on the subject...

How long is considered an appropriate wait for an e-sub?

And how should I go about asking them for an update, or status report, if the appropriate time has passed without a response?

You subbed to Gothic.net? Or Cemetery Dance, Lorrie? Either way, I'd give 'em about three more weeks.

I just got a note from Alien Skin that took nearly three months...

Gothic.net. And 6 weeks sounds reasonable. I figure it shouldn't take as long as snail mail subs, but I didn't expect an immediate response (although, that would have thrilled me no end).

Mac, it took that long to hear back from Alien Skin? Haven't subbed to them in awhile but the two times that I did they were pretty quick to respond. Weird. I think they've been doing upgrades or something so that may have had something to do with it.

:) It was one of those "we almost thought we wanted this, so we passed it around the office a couple of times so everyone could read it, but in the end, it just didn't have enough votes for us to go with it..." rejections.

And on a flash piece. Heh.

Is Alien Skin still in business? I keep hearing mixed signals about them.

From Cemetery Dance, the normal wait is two to four months, and it can hit six months without any problem, especially if they like your story. Patience is a must there.
