If so, are there some genres you just would not tolerate?
Would they have to be less successful than you, Mr./Ms. Insecure?

Well, I'm married to someone who barely reads, but I'll speculate.

Yes, I'd date a writer. I probably wouldn't date a SFF author, because (don't kill me folks) I imagine that guy would probably still have his collection of Star Wars toys and his D&D stuff.

I would hope he'd be more successful so I could stay at his place rent-free. :D

Date? Sure. Why not? We'd at least have something mutually interesting to talk about during dinner. Anything beyond that would be iffy, though. My housemate is also a writer and sometimes there's just not enough room in one city, let alone one house for the ebbs and flows of both of our creative paths. I don't want to think about what it would be like to try to merge that in with a romantic relationship too.

Writers are crazy though. Are you people nuts? Why are you saying YES?

Hmmm... maybe.

but my husband would get mad

:D

In all seriousness, I don't know I could date someone just as weird as me - talking about plot lines and characters as if they were real people. We'd probably have no other friends aside from the imaginary ones and if he did better than me, I'd have to kill him.

I don't think I would. Not sure. Can't figure out when we'd ever talk to each other. One or the other would always be hunched/agonized/aggravated over a WIP. Although, maybe the not talking thing would work out really well . . .

I've only ever known one couple who were both writers and they did not see each other much. But it did seem to suit them. :D He'd be out in his studio/writing shack all day long while she was in her little writing office/room in the house. On Saturday nights they'd go out to dinner and it was sort of a "Oh hello, and you are?" situation each week.

Interesting question, guess my answer would have to be Don't Know.

Date, no. But marry, yes. :) Incidentally, I married a fellow speculative fiction writer, but we never dated. :p

Of course I'd date a writer...in fact, I did and married her. :D

She's published (non-fiction...see the link below). I'm not published (unless you want to count winning a poetry thingy years ago), but working hard on two or three or...fiction pieces.

We're both readers, share books, ideas. I bounce plot points off her, she throws some of them back with a look on her face that says "no way, buballa" and I ditch them. She's added some good ideas to my writing, of which I am eternally grateful for.

In short, we encourage each other.

My advice: If you come upon a writer for a date--give 'em a chance, eh?

That's my humble opinion, your's may differ.

No. I dated a soap opera star once...sorry, but I prefer the hysteria, weirdness, eccentricities to be all mine. One of us with princess issues is more than enough.

I've found, however, strippers make great partners...though they leave their clothes laying 'round. That got old quick.

Nope. I'll keep my military man. One of us has to be sane--and it's isn't me. I find that sanity + Inky = catastrophe.

My partner another writer? Eh eh. Ick.

i'd really rather not, thanks.

Artists, writers, musos. The reality is not cool.

Give me a nice software developer or accountant. Someone with an income, preferably. :p

Yes, I would. In fact, being single, that's what I'm looking for. As long as she was a good writer. Not one of the many out there who are trying to re-write Harry Potter or DaVinci Code.
Plus, she has to have nice cans.
And, she has to have a nice ace.
