My protagonist has schizophrenic hallucinations. I want to be scientifically accurate, and so, I need to know what kinds of things a schizophrenic individual would "see" that others would not. In other words, some kind of documented account of having said disorder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Auditory hallucinations ("voices") are far more common than visual hallucinations ("seeing things") too, I heard.

Of course, it was a toaster that told me that; I haven't seen the actual data! ha! ;)

There was recently an article in New Scientist that studied a new aspect of schizophrenic perception. They had normal test subjects and schizophrenic subjects. They were shown street scenes. Some normal, some with strange changes. Some had street signs upside down, some had cars upside down, etc. They found that even a functioning, medicated schizophrenic had a harder time determining what was normal and what was not in the various scenes.

I Googled "schizophrenic art"

And found this:

Scary.

There was much more stuff when I Googled "schizophrenic artists."

I know The Fortean Times had a lengthy article about how they see things, but can't find it in their online back issues.

But it's late and I'm pooped. You guys delve into it.
