We've lined up mods to help with this room -- which is really sort of an ongoing community history project.

A number of terrific and amazing things have happened at AW. Some of them public, and some of them strictly behind the scenes (those amazing things, unfortunately, will for the most part remain invisible.)

When Shwebb suggested this room, I had to think about how to do it, for a bit. My first inclination was to simply leave it closed, with copies of pertinent threads posted here, too . . .

Then I realized that for history to be a living thing, it's important to be able to talk about it, ask questions, and examine it together. That's what this subforum is for.

We welcome community participation, nominations for threads and AW events to be included, and general discussion.

And a big thank you to Ol' Fashioned Girl, Clockwork_9, and Stew21 (who doesn't know yet, because she wasn't logged on when she was press-ganged volunteered) for taking on this task.

Thanks, Mac... as much guff as I've given you, I appreciate the vote of confidence. And thanks, III. I don't know that I have all that much of a legacy, but I'm honored to be working with the rest of all you all. ;)

03-24-2008, 05:25 AM
you should've just called this the "bravo dedication" room, because we all know every historic thread was created by me.

or if not created, than made more brilliant because i posted in it.

so nice effort "mac", but you really should've thought this through.

ooooooooooooooooh! neat! a new forum to sully keep track of. I'll bet we can find lots of fun things in here.

Congratulations on your bouncing, baby forum.

It's so clean in here. Haggis hasn't carved his phone number in the desks yet. It feels...weird. There's no gum under the seats, no cookie crumbs, no coffee cup rings, no graffiti on the walls. This is creeping me out. I'll be back later after inexplicable smell has set into the furniture.

there is, however, a keg.

I hate when they move the furniture around, I always end up bumping into things when I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Ouch! Not fun! *rubs her shin*

really glad no one is getting the boot,
or high-heel shoe,
or sneaker,
or clog,
or slipper,
or sandal.
(Not really sure what sort of footwear MacAllister wears?
Perhaps a search of prior threads will provide a clue...)

Stew in jackboots ... (notes sudden increase in pulse rate)

Kewl forum! There are so many things I can think of: our Stories of Strength anthology which has its own forum; the never-ending road trip (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17547) when we switched hosting companies -- in fact, the entire hosting drama we went through until we finally got our own server; the annual April Fools gags ... what day is it today? ;)

Stew21
03-25-2008, 12:40 AM
I already checked the date when I logged on this morning. Something about a "welcome to the squad" rep from Derek sent me to my calendar.
But the past history of April fools will have to be explored, I think.

Wow - this room has new room smell!

Can we add a "Flouncing Hall of Fame"? For truly memorable flounces, and various other crashes and burns??

:D

Yes - I was hoping to. Flounces, flounce template, flounces turned monty python.

See what you miss, ChunkyC? Some folks think OP is a worthless endeavor... but some of the most heart-warming, soul searing threads are right there. It's where we get to know and love (mostly) one another. It's where we make ourselves at home. It's where 'I's' become 'us's'.

Stew21
03-27-2008, 05:28 AM
It's also where trust is built. We know which members "get us" and who we get, so when we get down to business in the writerly threads and forums, we have a bond.

Yes indeed. I certainly don't consider OP a worthless endeavour, quite the opposite. It's just one of those places I never seem to get to much anymore. Whenever I come to the cooler (most often during short breaks when I'm at work, it seems), by the time I've hit the spots that are my primary destinations, I've usually run out of time.

And how come no one ever tells me when we rearrange? I keep cracking my shins on the furniture in the dark.

I think I'm actually class of '04, there was a switch over from another host or something in Feb '05. I lurked a lot even after joining. I didn't come out of my shell until way later.
