He did?! Wow. Talented man in many facets. He wrote the screenplay for The Talented Mr. Ripley which is one of my favorites. I also loved The English Patient.

Amazing talent -- and from I know, an amazing person. 54 is way too young. Not only was he a great director, he was also a wonderful writer (he wrote the screenplays of many of his movies: English Patient, Cold Mountain, the Talented Mr. Ripley, etc.). When I was reading Ripley, I thought I was actually watching the movie -- that's how good he was.

He also played the interviewer in Atonement, possibly his last on-screen role.

RIP Mr. Minghella.
