View Full Version : Very odd plastic surgery question/skin bleaching question...

Don't ask - ;) - but I have a client who wants me to write a novel, including a very unlikely story element. One of the main characters, a young black woman, undergoes dermatologic/plastic surgery "treatment" to make her appear white.

I haven't even begun to Google and thought I'd post here first in case there are people who've tackled this same plot detail before. I understand there are bleaching treatments (allegedly Michael Jackson did this, right?). But if you have any suggestions on specific words to Google beyond the obvious (bleaching), I'm all ears (eyes).

Thanks! :hi:

If you are fair already, ablative and nonablative lasers can be used, but in most cases I have heard of topical treatments for skin whitening. Here are two good articles about the subject:

See. I knew a brilliant member here would point me in the right direction before I could scan the first page of a Google search.

Thank you very much!

Hyperpigmentation I beleive is Jackson's problem where the underlying skin stops produing melanin and lightens. Hypopigmentation is too much malanin darkening fair skin.
'The hydroquinone main ingredient in all the skin lightening and bleaching products may bring about cancer.'

So Google and check out what's there :}

Jackson has vitiligo, which is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system mounts a response against skin pigment-bearing cells.

I think that the topical meds for skin lightening are called hydroquinones.
