word count & playwrights

bigstimpycat

since i seem to be the only playwright entering a selection so far, i suppose it doesn't really matter, however, much of my entry was taken up by stage directions. i didn't want to cut this out because i really wanted readers to get a sense of what the stage looked like so they could picture the action correctly but that meant that the real "writing" - the lines of dialogue - ended up being a lot less than 700 words. i think that other playwrights should get a break & not have to count the words in their stage directions.

Sorry, but the word count is the same for playwrights and screenwriters, too. 700 words including stage directions/actions.

word count

actually play and screen scripts are not word counted...they are page counted, so counting words is foreign to us and we ARE at a disadvantage. because of the writing format the word count could be 2 pages or 10 pages!!!
