That would depend on what they're being used for.

Training manuals--Normal, that's what I expect.

Published original fiction or non-fiction--amatuerish and I wouldn't pay money for them.

Fan fiction--Normal, that's what I expect.

Like anything else in life--it depends on what you're talking about.

Horrible thought -- do you mean is it OK to submit spiral-bound manuscripts to agents and publishers?

i was thinking about self publishing.
i thought spiral bound might be better if images are included or for short books. (fiction etc)

In the Americas and Europe, it would look horribly amateurish unless it was a workbook or possibly a very short cookbook.

I haven't traveled much elsewhere in the world, so I can't comment on other countries' industry standards.

Agreed. Except for some very specific types of books...I'd be put off.
