GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons.

FOX Sports first reported Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers quarterback informed the team in the last few days. ESPN.com said that according to Favre's agent the quarterback told coach Mike McCarthy of his decision.

Speculation is that he was hoping for Randy Moss. That might have had something to do with his decision. He needed a receiver.

I'm not a Green Bay fan, but I love Brett Favre. I'd hoped he would play another season at least. Truly a good guy who never takes himself too seriously and who is always classy, win or lose.
